Topic Guidelines: Discussion on Upcoming Release
Welcome to the new discussion thread for anything related to the forthcoming release. This is the place to share your thoughts, theories, questions, and any remarks. But please, keep it focused on the subject at hand.
Guidelines:
- Stay on-topic:
All posts should be directly related to the new release(s).
Off-topic messages will be quietly removed, as we aim to keep the signal clear.
- Be formal:
This thread is for thoughtful, informed discussion.
While we appreciate creativity, let’s keep things focused and avoid wandering too far into detours.
- An informative space:
This thread is especially important for our newer members, who may have many questions about the upcoming release(s). We want to keep the conversation grounded, dense and helpful as we piece together the details.
As of now, all other threads related to the new album will be closed. Let’s keep things organized and focused in this one space. A summary of the previous and ongoing topic can be found in the
News & Findings topic.
A quick note:
The previous thread has been closed due to its size causing some issues with our database. It’s almost fitting, in a way - a thread so large it couldn’t be contained anymore. So, we’re starting fresh, clearing the static to make way for clearer discussion.
Thank you, and let’s look forward to what’s ahead!

This just isn't the same anymore ..

It would have been more simple if they released an album already.

And here's a glimpse into the future;

I got shortchanged by the other thread closing down, so I'll repost my reminders of Xmas past here:
From 2011:Seeya_Later wrote: Question: Does BoC actually consider this long wait to be a good strategy to build fan anticipation? Because as far as I can tell there really aren't as many people who are waiting like us. Most people will be like "Oh, a new Board of Canada album. I remember them. Old school, man!" and then they might not even get a copy.
Lack of fan communication would probably work for a band like Radiohead, who everyone listens to whether they actually like them or not.
Basically, Warp will have to advertise the crap out of their next album, because there's a chance that it might go unnoticed by a lot of people. People know Autechre because they have a steady flow of releases. People know Aphex Twin because he has enourmous of fanboys who idolize him (and not to mention, he still does shows). BoC has neither of those points.
I also think it may fail to generate buzz because most people wouldn't realize the significance of a new BoC release.
I'm thinking BoC isn't enough of a heavy-hitter to be pulling this "we can take our sweet time because that will make it more successful" approach. Regardless of whether the music is any good.
If that's not what they're doing then whatever. I hope they aren't.

Just kidding we're all probably fans of all three >_<

As a Telepath, I'm receiving a vision of the future...
It's late December, 2025. I'm putting together my list of favorite albums of the year; there is no BOC release to add to it.
"Maybe next year," I sigh, instead listing the latest 3 hour Autechre live session compilation.

When I was a kid and I wanted a new computer game, My parents told me I had to complete the last one first before I got a new one.
I feel like there is something in Tomorrows Harvest we haven't figured out yet.

I suggest we don’t neglect their SxT project. There’s 6 years and 13 days between TH and SxT. What if there’s a similar gap between SxT and LP5? That would leave us with a July 2025 release.

Good point. It was not an album but it sure was something special.

https://bocpages.org/wiki/Interviews-al ... arvest_eraFor those that need a reminder (from
The Charms of the Sphinx interview 2013-06-17):
There’s no way to not call it a comeback. Question is: Is this record a new beginning or maybe the end? How does it feel for you?
Marcus: It feels like neither of those things from our perspective because we’ve always been working! We’d be making music anyway even if nobody was listening, and we’ve no intention of stopping, so this is just a continuation.

My gut feeling is that something will be announced by the end of February 2025. I am aware this rather over-optimistic, but if it comes true you heard it here first.

I think so too and I think we're getting an announcement in the first quarter of the year. I've said it here before, but Warp has been focused on their legacy artists a lot as of lately, and there's one act that hasn't been focused on yet...

2 things, actually...
I OVERFLOW MAN/Owl of Minerva was never figured out.
There are still two RSD vinyl that haven't been accounted for (but something tells me either Warp or BOC have them, probably BOC, considering there are two missing. They've talked about archiving things for their children/family and it wouldn't surprise me if they stashed a vinyl aside each knowing we'd all empty our wallets out if they went up on a charity auction or something). I don't count this as something not figured out, but thought I should mention it just in case.
Everything else was figured out.

I OVERFLOW MAN is what it says it is. But there's definitely a lot more to TH that's left to be found. If people are still finding tidbits from Campfire and even Geo and MHTRTC and everything before, I think we can keep busy for awhile with what's there in front of us.
