I'm Bertrand, a 21 years old French student currently staying for 1 year in Edinburgh.

I got into BOC a couple years ago, thanks to a friend.

Concerning music, apart from Warp records, I'm listenning to artists such as Coil, Massive Attack, Four Tet, Superpitcher, Pantha du Prince, Aufgang, Beirut, Booka Shade, Emancipator, Animal Collective, Hermitude, Principles of Geometry, and the list goes on...

I also got a passion for clockmaking and a big interest in fashion.

Hope I'm going to learn lots of things about this amazing group here

Thank you for reading.

Hello everyone. The name's Jean. French name for a frenchy from Quebec, Canada. In the suburbs of Montreal, to be exact. I'm 22, expecting to last more than 27. Been 5 years in cinema, at college, then 6 months in university in film studies/litterature... realized I didn't like movies that much so I droped. Now, I'm in writing class, fully enjoying it. Also, this university is litteraly one street down the National Film Bank, trying to go there from time to time.
First time I've heard of BoC was at the Daft Punk show; an old girlfriend told me she was into Music Has the Right, that I should give it a try. So, since 2007, I've been exploring those wild, obscure sounds. Have heard all the albums/EPs, but not all the lost tracks (Old tunes, etc etc), so I'm always kind of lost when people are talking about "Circle" or "Harper Bay" ( ;) I know it's Hooper. Political joke. Ha... ha. Yeah, I know...) but essentialy I gradualy try to discover those tunes.
Other then Boards, I listen to Massive Attack, Trentemoller, Cat Power, John The Wolf, Kraftwerk, and classic stuff like Miles Davis and Erik Satie. The latter stuff I listened to are: Rykard (seriously, best 10$ i've used in a looong time), Brian Eno (someone left a tape of Ambient 1&2 in a recycle bin; i still wonder why) and, slowly but safely, Aphex Twin.

The music is the only thing that makes me write. Without it, I still want to write, but I can. It gives it more depth... I don't know how to say it. It's just my way of working... I hope so much I'll be workin' again at my local cd store this holiday... the only place I feel at home.
Or maybe will I feel at home here to :D

Hey guys,

George Atkinson here
also knows as "The_Doctor"
as i'm a massive classic series Doctor Who fan
and also massive Boards Of Canada fan
it sucks as i'm 18 and have been a BoC fan since i was 14
and as you can imagine it's rather hard to find people of my age
who like that type of music.
Their music has helped shape my life and they have become part of my life style.
I'm so glad there is a forum like this so that Boards fans can come together
also the topics that are on here are very interesting and fascinating
so i'm sure i'll be right at home!
cheers, The_Doctor

Hi all,

I'm Mark, and I'm quite old. As evidence of how old I am I recently attended ATP's Bowlie 2, and, whilst there, I was under the misguided impression that the secret band performing might be Boards (Scottish; played ATP before; etc.) It wasn't, it was Franz Ferdinand.

I first got into Boards of Canada around the time of Music Has The Right..., in fact it was through a free CD that came with NME that first switched me on - that track was Roygbiv. Haven't looked back since and I still hold Geogaddi as my favourite album ever.

I am interested in getting started in making music on the laptop, but I am clueless in terms of what starting blocks are required - this includes laptop - but I will do a separate post on this, as I need help.

Scarily similar story to mine Mark. I'm also 'quite old' ie. closer to 40 than to 30  .

I was also (semi) duped by a deliberately ambiguous ATP/'secret Scottish Act' promise, albeit relating to the Edinburgh showing of the ATP movie summer before last. In my case it was Mogwai who showed up so I wasn't too devastated!

Finally, I also dream of recording my music one day, but I also have about 2% patience when it comes to learning the ropes. I've started and quit more times than a 40-a-day smoker.

Welcome :D

Hi! My name is Sigrid and I live in Gothenburg, Sweden.
I stumbled in to this forum when I was looking for info on one of the tracks on the new One on Twoism-album and found that its here you all hang around! I'm a huge fan of everyone's work!

As everyone else here I love and live for Boc's music. I guess people who likes Boc are in the same kind of "mind state" or atleast that's my experience. I often seem to like other Boc-fans a lot and we often have many other thing in common.
So My guess is that this is a great place whit many great people! Cheers!

Hi all !!

I'm a 26 years old woman.....(humm just read the "girls" topic...interesting...) living in France.
I was studying education when I suddenly gave it up for....dance !! I do tribal fusion dance, kind of a melt between middle-eastern traditional dance (what they call bellydance, arggh) , hip-hop and contemporary dance. // I recently posted a topic with a video of me dancing on "Pete Standing Alone" in the BoC section //

I've discovered magnificent Boards of Canada about two years ago , thanks to a bassist friend ( which i play too), who likes to listen to deep and cutting-edge pieces of music.

For my part, I went thru several genres : goth/post rock, Joy division, Bauhaus...Industrial music : KMFDM, NIN, Skinny Puppy( love the 80's !!!) , Pig and Metal/Death Metal : Gojira, Korn, Cult of Luna, ISIS...

Recently i'm very far into Ambient, down-tempo music (listening to Carbon Based lifeforms as I'm writing), and i had/have the chance to work with artists of that genre in my country...

I also like meditation...

Voila, I think i made it up to a brief introducing
More to come maybe, and if you want to discover my dance go to BoC section!

See you !

Yey! Another new girl! Now I don't feel so alone..

I think this forum needs some feminine touch :). I been thinking a lot lately why there are so few girls that are in to this type of electronic music..First I thought that it might have something to do whit the fact that guys are more in to computers and other technical stuff and that electronic music is somehow linked to that...But then I realised "hey..I'm not in to computers and other technical stuff..but still in to electronic music o_O" So I still don't know..

Maybe we should start a thread in this subject! But I don't know if I'm brave enough..

Nice to hear that you like Carbon Based lifeforms! They are from my city, really great musicians!

Yeah, it gets to be a bit of a sausage party in here  we could all use a little bit of the female perspective more often, hehe

I think you should do it. Or someone should. I've often wondered this too! Just make sure to ask the question outside of any kind of "I can't get a date because girls don't like my music :(" context, or else that's all the replies you'll get :P

I'm afraid I'll disappoint you on that reason because I'm very much into computers and technical stuff...Just spend my afternoon on Reason and Cubase , producing and sampling some stuff ...

Hey guys....I've already made a bunch of posts in the BoC section....this was the first time I had wandered outside of there so I hadn't noticed this thread until now, haha. I'm 23 and from the US, just graduated college.

I guess I've been pretty into BoC since around my senior year of highschool, so since '05 or '06. I had heard BoC songs I liked on lo fi shoutcasts before (underground headphone sex) but I had never known they were by BoC until I was finally pointed in the direction of BoC by Salad Fingers, haha. After I looked them up I discovered that they had made songs that I liked and then I was instantly into them and got a few of their albums and liked all their stuff. And right after that the Trans-Canada Highway EP came out and I had been all excited and gotten it. Little did I know there would be a long lull to follow :(.

Up until recently however, they were kind of secondary to the other stuff I listened to (mostly post rock) but for some reason I've gotten more into them and through youtube I discovered their older unreleased (except on the internet) stuff and love it. And I've never really had anyone to talk about BoC with and I was getting sick of it so I decided to look up the BoC community and I ended up here! It looks like my timing was good too since there are rumors flying everywhere of a new album finally......

I ended up ranting more than I thought I would, but long and short, hi everyone, glad I discovered this place :)

hey man, your "origin story" is almost the exact same as mine! except i first discovered BoC as a sophomore in high school (2002-2003) which was not long after Geogaddi... and there was a long lull to follow! But heed my words of encouragement.... TCH was announced :) the lull ended. I felt like a band that was long dead had come back from hiding just as I discovered them. and everyone had a big shitstorm about it, i distinctly recall one thread around here in which one person said "jesus those track titles are lame, it's fake, it's not really BoC it's some lame faker" and trust me: the same fucking thing will happen when BoC actually announce another album. My point I guess is that people are willfully miserable fucks and always will be and there is nothing that will ever save them, end period finish. Enjoy your own personal hells, you sorry bastards. For the rest of us, it'll be cool when it arrives, and if it never does, I'm cool, cuz I've already had my "woah they're still alive!" moment and that's enough for me.

Hi, I'm Patrick. I live in Belgium. I'm 37. I discovered boc around MHTRTC because at that time I spent every bit of money I could afford on vinyl and equipement. Investments that still pay of as this very afternoon I went to pick up 250 euro at a secondhand music store. back in those days I was pointless, unemployed, living from day to day upside down and inside out. MHTRTC became an anchor, together with biosphere's substrata, old Orb stuff and autechre's Tri Repetae. One day a gentle girl picked me out of the mud :-)
Now almost 15 years later I'm a father of two, we have a house, a car, a job (same job for 7 years now, waw!), a dog, a daw, and a good acoustic guitar. I also like jazz. Duke ellington's money jungle is in my top ten albums. I like Erik Truffaz alot, but also like beck..
I like woody allen films, i like reading books, I like Douglas Coupland. And I have a copy of 1984 that I lent out to someone and after a trip of years it came back in my hands simply because it has my name in it.
I'll get me coat

edit: and yes, I like getting back here and read all you ppls thoughts

Hi folks,

I joined a few months back to make a track submission to One on Twoism Vol. 4. This community has really grown on me since. I'd known of this forum and BoC pages for some time before then, but I guess I just didn't really give it enough attention. I suppose it's better later than never to introduce myself. I'm Tom (as you might have noticed). I'm 22 years old and I grew up in the State of Maine (for the most part). I'm currently at school in Massachusetts. Music is my passion. I love to make it, perform it, play it, etc.

I heard of BoC as a sophomore in high school (2003, probably in February). I'll never forget hearing them for the first time. A friend of mine had just found out about Geogaddi and let me have a listen to his headphones. What he played was Music Is Math. I was immediately stunned and got a kind of "70's-80's technicolor nature/science documentary feel" right off. I remember being played some dated documentaries like that in elementary school. For me I think it's a combination of this and vague/subconscious memories from early childhood that are "opened" with BoC. I've been a strong listener ever since this first spin.
