Hello. scotfree here. 36 year old male from Scotland but now live in Australia.
When i was a kid i used to love looking out my frount window and seeing the sunset over the Pentland Hills.
I never know that is where some of the best music i have ever heard was going to be made!

Anyway Hello to you all!

Hey folks

I am new to the forum and thought I would just send out a hello to fellow BOC fans. I am originally from Canada but now live in London, UK. I do hope these guys put something out in October as I have been reading.

Cheers

I've been here for a while but I dont think I've 'introduced myself'.
My name is Oliver.
I'm 21 years old.
I'm probably the only South African on this forum.
I guess I'm not on here much because I used to have technical difficulties, and I found that I couldnt keep up with posting.. this forum is big!

My music taste has changed a lot since I was 17, the only constant being Boards of Canada, and I believe I will always love their music. I hope to be on more.

I got introduced to this interesting forum through portiss, one of those newer member. That makes me another Dutchie on here.
Since I saw Jurassic Park when I was seven I wanted to get into film, somehow. Now I'm 20 years old, study film in Zwolle and I will be living in Amsterdam with my girlfriend for the next five months, living between filmsets and projects. So I've come a pretty long way, I guess.

My other great interest is music, which I've been listening to since high school, but really started to 'discover' music since a year or two. I mostly listen to glitch, electronic acoustic improvisation, (free) jazz and the musicians that likes to experiment with sounds, creating new worlds for us to discover. That's where BoC comes in.

So. Hi there.

How's life in Africa? I watched a part of a Louie Theroux show the other day where he visisted some people. I was amazed about the amount of discrimination which is still going on there. It really saddens me to see that this is a pretty huge thing in the part which he visited. I didn't see the whole show but I assume it's in Southern Africa?

I guess as long as there will be people there will be discrimination...

I guess he can be lucky to be a man in Africa.. I recently read that over 60% of women in Africa have been raped. Seems to be very common over there. :-/

I'm not certain about that rape statistic, but yes, there is a lot of poverty here. And a lot of race/class discrimination. We have 11 official languages for goodness sakes, whenever you have that many cultures and a history of slavery, there is bound to be inequality.

South Africa is better off than most African countries by a long shot though.
It is truly a beautiful place, and though it is a developing country, don't think it's not cosmopolitan. Cape Town (near where I live) has got to be one of the most beautiful cities in the world.
I feel lucky to live here, and though I plan on traveling, I may very well end up spending most of my life here.
