In all fairness, the jabs continued to come in. Let’s cap it off and stop trying to get the last parting shot.
Is there any other date we are speculating on, or is pretty much a clean slate now??

I think there's a good chance the Pioneer Plaque is a thematic nod to whatever they're working on, like the mushroom cloud pic on the Warp BOC Page was for TH

Do you, or anyone, know how long before the announcement of TH that mushroom cloud image appeared? I wasn't paying attention at the time. Was it 6 months? A year or two?

2009 actually. but I think in that case, they posted it way too early. Though it was clear they were working on the whole apocalpyse angle for a while with Newcleardawn.com

Sweet. So we could be 3.5 - 4 years away from a release lol. Remember in 2009 / 2010 MDG was insisting that a release was happening within the year. Clearly they got delayed by outside circumstances (maybe that's when Mike moved to NZ!) So maybe they posted that mushroom cloud with the plan to release around then, but then reconsidered or decided to plan out the ARG and that took a long time to put together.

But in all seriousness, i get a vibe it won't be that long this time. I mean, it's already been 8 years haha

Exactly. That's another reason that the fixation on vaguely related dates doesn't make sense. The label wants money. They want to drum up excitement for the album and cash in on it.
In 2013, the Record Store Day vinyls had "Boards of Canada" prominently displayed on them, contained a snippet of new music that was obviously BOC, and Warp confirmed it was legitimate within hours.
A marketing campaign is not going to start with a YouTube banner change that sort of hints at a date if you dig through Wikipedia articles long enough.

The dates have always been random shots in the dark. BoC makes some minor update and suddenly any numerical value remotely attached to it becomes a prospective release date, despite them literally never using numerology to hide clues about release dates for their albums.
Like, as elaborate as the Tomorrow's Harvest ARG was, there was a clear start point, a clear goal, and the clues provided the login to a new website, not an obscure hint at a release date.
I think there's a good chance the Pioneer Plaque is a thematic nod to whatever they're working on, like the mushroom cloud pic on the Warp BOC Page was for TH, but there is no reason to believe that every minor thing they do provides a secret message about when their next release is coming. It's just leading everyone to get their hopes up and dashed over and over again.
The new record will be ready when it's ready. It's good that there are signs of life, but when they actually start moving towards a release, it will be obvious.

I can't imagine it being something like simply snuck inside a Warp newsletter announcing a new album, but is the general consensus something large and elaborate, or do you think it may be a bit more subdued because of the pandemic?
