interesting point i just saw on reddit...

anyone in here ever consider this new bill in the US about releasing all known UFO information by June 1st possibly being taken advantage of by Boards of Canada, since the Hell Interface Pioneer Plaque Youtube banner is directly related to contacting extraterrestrials???

seems plausible to me

I'd love for it to be true. I think that the only time they ever reacted to a non-BOC event was on 6/6/06 with Trans Canada, though it wasn't actually released on that day. Could be wrong though.

That said, June 1st, is post-Squid's Bright Green Field, which seems to be the only thing Warp is promoting for a quarter of the year(!) Let's hope for a summer of BOC afterwards! 8)

I'm sad Tomorrow's Harvest never had a japanese bonus track. Especially since I'm quite fond of the ones from Headphase and Geogaddi. Unlike a lot of warp artists, (Flying Lotus is the biggest offender) BOC did not simply throw on some warm-up demo as for their bonus tracks. It could have even been the one they used for that award show in 2014.

It nothing less and nothing more, in terms of the music they realeased for Tomorrow's Harvest. Listening to it, the album feels the most direct album they have ever made, so all the outtakes, probably, were minimized to zero.

I came to this conclusion hearing an album's worth of unreleased material from Ween from their Quebec era. The same genius talent is there, but the Ceasar demos are all inferior to what made it on the album. They sound like variations on the best stuff.

I wouldn't be so sure. Many artists have b-sides/outtakes as good as (often better than) the album tracks. Hell I'm probably gonna get flak for this but, without hesitation, there are some tracks from MHTRTC that I'd have swapped for Boc Maxima cuts.

Right. This immediately made me think of Aphex Twin's Syro. As much as I love that album, imo that Japan bonus track titled Marchromt30a Edit 2b 96 is by far the best track of the whole thing, especially towards the ending, that part still gets me every time I listen to it!

It's quite a bold move imo, as if someone is casually throwing around their highest quality stuff, being easy to miss for most people and all.

Aphex is one of the main offenders and the Soundcloud dump was a prime example. Admittedly, it did have a lot of filler, but I also think it housed some of his greatest work. There were so many tracks that had me thinking "why the eff didn't this make the album?!"

Not gonna lie, I sometimes think you are BOC man. You nail them spot on sometimes. Pretty sure that everything they did for TH had to fit together like the pieces of a puzzle. Hence why they claim the album is structured like a palindrome.

This is the second time in the last week that I've had a dream about a new BoC album...

Haha, i forgot what else you said, but there were definitely some key insights that made me think, 'this guy knows what he's talking about.' I remember you bringing up outer space talk before the plaque even dropped.

I still think Opothecary will resurface when the new release drops. That's my prediction. He was a big enough fan, that I'm sure he'd want to see when they make their triumphant return.

I was the main advocate, that TH should be the their last album for the past decade. 2020 is the time. Lost by a year.

It appears the nation's favourite elusive messenger, mdg, was online again last night.

This likely means nothing, but perhaps still an observation worth noting.

After years of not visiting, he's been online like 3 times in as many months.

No real conclusions that can be drawn, but it is unusual.

He was secretly sending us mods links to the HexSun TikTok channel. Mike loves a sea shanty.

Impressive, and actually with the way 2020 turned out, I actually think this was a great career move, since BOC are so focused on a long running "narrative" to their music, starting with Beautiful Place in 2000. Whatever they release now will probably fit into the context of this new world.

And who knows with MDG. Maybe we're getting closer to a release/news? :)

Definitely worth noting! It makes me wonder... because if he didn't sign in for a huge amount of time, it begs the question if he was just lurking a bit here and there-- reading stuff without being signed in. It interests me to know that he has been signing in a lot lately when he could just be reading stuff without taking the effort to log in each time. Not revolutionary, but still kind of interesting.

I am listening to TH while at work, and to be honest, it has been several months since I have listened to BoC- which is very unusual for me. I even moderate the subreddit, so I am still thinking about them and what their music means to me all the time. I still think I hold the record for listening to Societas X the most amount of times :P

I am hoping with every fiber of my being that this will be the year.

Hope everyone is doing well and staying safe <3

I also take lots of breaks from BoC but they're always in the back of my mind. I browse twoism at least 3 times a week and I'm mostly thinking about their music wether or not I'm actively listening to them. They have a permanent place in my brain and ears.

The reason why I think this year will definitely be the year is because of how quietly they've been hyping up new material throughout the last 4 years. Becoming more active on twitter, with liking peoples tweets about wanting a new record. Then some more remixes, the SxT and MDG logging back in. It's all slowly building to something, something we'll see in the near future.

It definitely won't be another ARG-type rollout, if anything it'll be a mostly surprise drop. As for the tone and texture of the album? I'm hoping a return to form. Maybe giving us some of those unreleased live cuts...I mean where else could they go from Tomorrow's Harvest? They can only go back, and that's what they've always done with their music. Always going back, revising and re-contextualizing. Here's to this year. New BoC seems like the only thing that can save us in these trying times.

I personally think we'll get something new next year and not this one. Next year will mark the 36th year BoC has been formed. I don't think i need to explain to you guys the significance of the number 36
