That's awesome. Just saw your comment on Reddit. Have to repeat that Jupiter is the fifth planet from the sun, and it is over twice the size of each of the first four planets. If LP5 is a 4xLP, I think it would be safe to say it was worth the wait.
Lex just posted a nice write-up about the remix on their site:
Lex began in the corner of another label’s office, a generation ago.
Lex is 20 years old. To help us process all those memories we’ve commissioned remixes of key tracks in our catalogue and we’ll be releasing one every couple of weeks this year.
So far you’ve heard King Krule’s remix of 'Jealous' bu Eyedress and Actress’ remix of 'Think' Kaleida. Today we released Boards of Canada’s remix of Nevermen 'Treat Em Right'.
Nevermen is the most recent Doseone album on Lex. It’s beautiful and intense. A lot of the initial writing and production came from Doseone. The album was formed slowly over many years. Dose said that the process of making the Nevermen reminded him of making a cLOUDDEAD album. Tunde Adebimpe and Mike Patton brought a new dimension with the complex vocal harmonies. The last stage was Patton’s bionic production, essentially remixing every track until it throbbed. Art titan Keith Tyson provided conceptual services, designing their logos and providing panels of oil paintings for the sleeves.
Back in the early 2000s when Lex started as an imprint of Warp, a tiny offshoot label, Lex releases were on the schedule sandwiched between now classic releases by Boards of Canada, Aphex Twin, Broadcast, Autechre and Squarepusher. Around that time, Doseone and Boom Bip hung out with BOC in Scotland on tour and become friends. Over the years, BOC remixed their work: first Boom Bip 'Last Walk Around Mirror Lake' in 2003; cLOUDDEAD ‘Dead Dogs Two’ a year later; and Nevermen ‘Mr Mistake’, released in 2016, their first remix in almost a decade.
When we asked BOC about remixing a Nevermen track they said, “we've been huge fans of Mike's, way back to Mr Bungle, and of course Adam is a friend of ours, so we'd love to do this”. Nevermen sent the stems for the whole album, happy for BOC to rework whatever they liked. The result, ‘Mr Mistake’ remix was released on 7” picture-disc with Tyson artwork. A gem in Lex’s catalogue.
We started work in 2018 on the LEX•XX remix series, and asked BOC if they would get involved. They replied “we have early versions of the Nevermen tracks that were left aside and never finished”. The prospect of unreleased Boards of Canada remixes was too much. We had to wait months for the final remix to arrive. We loved it. We’ve heard it hundreds of times since then. And now you get to hear it. We hope you like it too.
