I always wondered if the timing of the recent remixes had some sort of significance. For those curious, the Sisters Remix came out on 2/22/2016. 1998 days after that date is August 12, 2021–-just around the bend! They’ve always been one step ahead of us, but this could be the kind of clue we’ve been waiting for!

The cynical side of me says they won't follow suit on August 12th.... but I'll be curious to see their activity through FB/Insta/Twtr between now and then.

I'm 100% convinced no numerology is behind a single thing they do or plan to do in terms of releases. That ARG that one time really poisoned people's brains

It's gonna hurt if they really disappear again after this, though...

Are you just going to ignore the 1998/Open the Light connection here? I don’t get how you could ignore the numbers when they are literally doubling down on the concept in front of our very eyes.

And for what it’s worth, it looks like the pioneer plaque was uploaded on the HI channel also on August 12th.

“The astrological and astronomical sign of the planet Jupiter (♃Jupiter) is sometimes used to represent Thursday.“

According to Wikipedia at least.

That’s when the 12th of August is this year.

That's awesome. Just saw your comment on Reddit. Have to repeat that Jupiter is the fifth planet from the sun, and it is over twice the size of each of the first four planets. If LP5 is a 4xLP, I think it would be safe to say it was worth the wait.

Lex just posted a nice write-up about the remix on their site:

Lex began in the corner of another label’s office, a generation ago.

Lex is 20 years old. To help us process all those memories we’ve commissioned remixes of key tracks in our catalogue and we’ll be releasing one every couple of weeks this year.

So far you’ve heard King Krule’s remix of 'Jealous' bu Eyedress and Actress’ remix of 'Think' Kaleida. Today we released Boards of Canada’s remix of Nevermen 'Treat Em Right'.

Nevermen is the most recent Doseone album on Lex. It’s beautiful and intense. A lot of the initial writing and production came from Doseone. The album was formed slowly over many years. Dose said that the process of making the Nevermen reminded him of making a cLOUDDEAD album. Tunde Adebimpe and Mike Patton brought a new dimension with the complex vocal harmonies. The last stage was Patton’s bionic production, essentially remixing every track until it throbbed. Art titan Keith Tyson provided conceptual services, designing their logos and providing panels of oil paintings for the sleeves.

Back in the early 2000s when Lex started as an imprint of Warp, a tiny offshoot label, Lex releases were on the schedule sandwiched between now classic releases by Boards of Canada, Aphex Twin, Broadcast, Autechre and Squarepusher. Around that time, Doseone and Boom Bip hung out with BOC in Scotland on tour and become friends. Over the years, BOC remixed their work: first Boom Bip 'Last Walk Around Mirror Lake' in 2003; cLOUDDEAD ‘Dead Dogs Two’ a year later; and Nevermen ‘Mr Mistake’, released in 2016, their first remix in almost a decade.

When we asked BOC about remixing a Nevermen track they said, “we've been huge fans of Mike's, way back to Mr Bungle, and of course Adam is a friend of ours, so we'd love to do this”. Nevermen sent the stems for the whole album, happy for BOC to rework whatever they liked. The result, ‘Mr Mistake’ remix was released on 7” picture-disc with Tyson artwork. A gem in Lex’s catalogue.

We started work in 2018 on the LEX•XX remix series, and asked BOC if they would get involved. They replied “we have early versions of the Nevermen tracks that were left aside and never finished”. The prospect of unreleased Boards of Canada remixes was too much. We had to wait months for the final remix to arrive. We loved it. We’ve heard it hundreds of times since then. And now you get to hear it. We hope you like it too.

And I take it back, it looks like that the Pioneer Plaque was noticed September 7th.

Great vibes on that remix track. Loving the subtle "Open the Light" sample in the background!

hoping an instrumental version comes out at some point. the latter half isn’t too bad, after that weird chord glitch thing (my favorite part). it’s just like the second verse that really doesn’t sit right with me. i doubt this is a sign of things to come, as Lex stated, this was in the works since 2018, and it’s highly likely that BoC was involved in nothing other than the music itself (which would explain the odd cover). highly doubting there’s any numerology to be looked into here, if something is coming, i don’t think this remix has any hints to it.

My thoughts exactly. If numerology was involved, it was probably a playful nod to it rather than actual symbolism of things to come.

That said, it hardly disqualifies something else happening this year. We might simply get lucky and experience a full BOC release of something.
Warning: This numerology post is not to be taken 2 seriously.

Do y’all believe the “1998” thing was luck or intentional?

probably luck. if you look hard enough anywhere, you will always find something. coincidences happen and this is probably just that. but like Echelon said, i still believe something bigger is on the way, this remix doesn’t discredit the weird things that have happened (i.e. Hell Interface FB page) but when that’s coming is anyone’s best guess.

I'm lost, why are you counting 1998 days after the Sisters remix? their latest remix was in 2017, if they were trying to do something with numbers I'd expect the previous release to be the one relevant (like when people were trying to count how many days passed since TH) but still I don't think they would ever do something like this with remixes of all things since, as it was mentioned before they did this remix years ago and the ones that had it in its possesion decided to release it now, I really doubt the brothers get to choose the exact release date and much less I don't think they would come up with a plan like "ok we are giving you this remix now (circa 2018) but don't release it until 2021, it has a sample from 1998 so people will have to count 1998 days before 2021 so it'll align with a previous remix of ours for another artist"
With all respect it sounds like half life 3 confirmed jokes.

I agree that if we look at enough numbers or circumstances we can find something that feels meaningful, but the 1998 days in between remixes that connects to MHTRTC's release year seems a little too improbable. I guess we'll find out sooner or later who gets to use Occam's Razor ;^)

Remember thats what people also said with the pioneer's last signal and all of the other connections (747, TH, etc) it was a lot of things that seemed too much to be a coincidence, but it was, it was just people looking hard enough at numbers until you find something you can relate it with.
