Their FB Hell Interface profile pictures were uploaded on a seemingly significant date (April 7th 2021 US Time, perhaps April 6th UK time). As we already knew, April 6th was Pioneer's launch, but the same black profile pictures were re-uploaded last September 1st 2022. September 1st 1979 is when the probe went by Saturn.
Sorry if this September 1st date was already mentioned, but I'm still inclined to believe the forthcoming album is space themed and probably completed. It seems like for some reason they let the cat out of the bag a little too early.

I don't see it as being an exclusive "space" themed album but instead inspiration from nostalgia, science, and themes related to human existence. The Pioneer Plaque is a memo to potential extraterrestrial life that provides information about Earth and humanity.
Since Boards of Canada decided to use the Pioneer Plaque as part of their Hell Interface project/banner/social media mischief, it seems like a deliberate choice to evoke a kinship to the cosmos, sense of exploration, and other thematic elements that echo their music and innovative vision, not necessarily "this is what 5 is about."
IIRC, didn't the boc Mastodon account have the same banner as Hell Interface/Hades Antenna/Sheol Boundary except it was black and white? That seems more than just a HI project in my eyes. I dunno, but as someone said before, it appears that they are interfacing with us from a vast distance and the plaque showcases this.

Imagine BoC is the composer of the trailer music and their new album is the GTA VI original score. One can dream, right? The Spaniard wrote:Rockstar is releasing the Grand Theft Auto VI trailer on December 5th.
Will they release GTA VI before Mike & Marcus finish the album they have been working on?
Will the release of the game impact record pressing plants like the new Adele album did? I hope not, I don't want to wait any longer.
