Funny how we got all the likes and increased activity just before the new merch drop. I'm losing faith.

Have we considered that merchandise might actually be the first tangible step toward the new LP? This is also not an uncommon practice in the music industry; artists sometimes launch merchandise before their new album is released. This strategy creates excitement and gives loyal fans something tangible to buy early on. Depending on how well sales go, they may still be able to update the timing of the next stage in the release schedule.

I agree. Why now? Why new merch now? Are they wanting to get boards of canada on some more humanoids out there? What for? Walking advertisements maybe?

They're a business after all. Don't forget Warp Publishing got acquired by Impel the other day. And Impel knows a thing or two about running a profitable business with some big names under their wings.

The IMPEL membership represents a diverse collection of works recorded by artists including Ed Sheeran, Stormzy, Dua Lipa, David Bowie, Ray Charles, Rihanna, Beyonce, Calvin Harris, Elvis Presley and Joni Mitchell.

In a way, it's a little strange to see BoC part of the same label that has Sheeran, Beyonce, and Rihanna under contract. But if that's all it takes to keep Warp running smoothly? Then yes, please.

I think almost everyone here is looking forward to the day when we have a new album, ep or remix (there’s maybe one or two contrarians who want to gloat though)

And I take everything we’ve heard from BoC, MDG and other sources in good faith, but I know that plans can change and sometimes things don’t come to fruition.

Kevin Shields repeatedly claimed there would be a new My Bloody Valentine album “this year” again and again. I’m sure he intended that to be the case.

GRR Martin has been assuring fans for over a decade that the Winds of Winter is on the way. There’s no indication it is finished. There is no difference between his statements and what MDG has communicated. Again, I fully believe these are statements made in good faith. Unfortunately it doesn’t automatically translate to an imminent release.

I hope this post will soon be irrelevant as a new LP gets officially launched, but at the moment in order not to be disappointed I’m taking all news and findings with a pinch of salt.

In response to lydia. Yes I do make music and no I haven’t exactly ever stopped. Every now and again (usually in the winter) I’ll get back into it. There’s absolutely no doubt that the brothers are releasing music under other names. I even believe I have heard some and had a WEIRD sort of confirmation that it was by ‘them’. I won’t go into who it was but it all went by relatively unnoticed which I find incredibly funny and I’m sure they do too. These guys are absolute PURISTS of the highest calibre. Any hint that they’ve over reached something on a project then they’ll drop it because to them it loses its magick. I believe they have done this with the name Board of Canada.

Interviewer: "How much does the current political instability in the world affect your music?"

Marcus: "Looking at the current situation, sometimes I feel inspired to create something dark and challenging out of this chaos. But on other days, I feel the best approach is to counter it and create something fresher and more positive. The media worldwide is already doing a good job of instilling fear and maintaining it daily. We don't need to add to that. While our music does have dark and surreal elements, the underlying message is always one of hope and freedom."

This is probably bait but no, come on, this is a forum where we're all listening to stuff all the time there's no need to be coy about it if you've got wind of music that's suspected by them. Vagueposting is cringe. Share what you've got with the class :D

You know. This seems very plausible. Could this possibly be a teaser a few months ahead before BOC drops a new album? I dunno about you, but this seems like a very good sign.

I will certainly hope for this and that Fredd E is correct. I would love an album to drop in the fall because BOC goes good with chilly weather and iced coffee.
Warning: This numerology post is not to be taken 2 seriously.

They’ve always alluded to a passive use of the internet. It’s absolute bollocks. They’re all over the place. They’re in here quite a bit too.

I don't know.. Seems like a poor strategy to release new mech for a band that hasn't released anything in 12 years. Drop the mech when the album drops. That's common sense.

If their strategy was to create excitement it wore off in a week

People are making knock-off BoC merch though, I can see Warp not loving that and reprinting some stuff, new album or no

He hasn't got anything. He's only got nuts. I've seen inside of his sack, no LP5 there. So, is the general consensus as to why boards of canada have dropped new merch is "Because Warp Needed Money"? How are we feeling on that one? I feel like there must be something more to it.

Needing money, realising they're leaving money on the table by not selling merch other people are bootlegging, phoned boc for their annual check in, got nothing and decided to release merch so they can say on paper having boc on the roster generated some income.

Pick any of these or maybe none of them. I'm going for needing money though, I bet London office rent is significantly higher than Sheffields

Speaking of, I walked by the old warp building in Sheffield the other day, it's now a deeply sus student bar called Bungalows and Bears. Truly the 90s are dead and buried :D
