I gotta go with Mexi on this one man.
It's not that I want to shoot you down.
I just want to shoot Kanye down. With a flak cannon.

I can honestly say that that was the very first Kanye West track I have ever heard.
This amuses me because, according to Rolling Stone, he made the album of the decade.
Yup, I am officially old!
See you all at Denny's!

The fact that Rolling Stone placed anything Justin Timberlake has done post-Future Sex/Love Sounds into the top ten records of the decade tells you all you need to know about Rolling Stone. I like 8 out of 10 of the records in that Top 10, but it's a very surface level look at anything that's been released in the decade.
That being said, the Kanye record they brought up...I don't believe it's the record of the decade, but it is massive. Most records Kanye has put out have shaped and pushed Hip-Hop in directions no one thought was possible before. We saw R&B sadly eat itself in the 90's and early 00's with how homogenized the sound became; Kanye was a key figure in saving Rap from the same fate.
Do I like the man's public persona? Not lately. Do I think he makes amazing art? 95% of the time.
I will never forget being at Kanye & Jay Z's Watch The Throne tour. I looked around and it was the most engaged arena audience I've ever seen. I've seen a lot of arena shows and most of the time I want to leave. You all know what those huge audiences look like - they're out of towners flocking to the big city to catch a show and feel entitled to disengage and inconvenience the people around them. NOT AT THIS SHOW. Everyone was paying attention, everyone was dancing, everyone put their hands up when one of those two asked them to, to the point of where the entire arena just looked like a sea of hands.
The way he's portrayed himself these last five years? He can go fuck himself with his stupid MAGA hat for it, but Kanye has immense impact on the Rap community and it should at least be celebrated when it's hit out of the ballpark.
See all three of you at Denny's for the extended discussion.

Late Registration was one of the greatest hip hop albums ever made.

I like a lot of his stuff, dislike quite a lot too. First couple of albums are absolutely brilliant. After that I find him patchy...
BUT - I like how he riles so many people and always seems to completely do his own thing - sometimes it works, other times not. He’s a proper pop star like that - that’s his job.

Yeah I just can't... like ever. Except you know that Kayne as a Tame Impala song. The man is so insipid and ridiculous.

I used to laugh my ass off when the then newly released BOMB MV Dropped, then I got into his early music.

Basically this, especially with the now infamous infowars interview, Vultures, and the new 2025 Grammys, Kanye needs help, actual help, professional help, not yes men, not twitter rants, not AI.
Recently in the Vultures release it was found that it used AI to make the reference recordings (mostly made by other people) sound finished, alongside using mumble demos, this is the same guy who made The College Dropout btw.
Also everything pre JIK can be considered a classic in his discography.

WTF man, the statement above still applies, but I no longer feel comfortable streaming his albums in services where he can make money from.
Mon Feb 10, 2025 8:44 pm
Yeah. I was still thinking for a minute that I should at least give his well-recieved stuff a try because production-wise it's supposedly amazing, but at this point I don't even care anymore. I won't be streaming any of it, and unless someone lends me any of those records, I certaintly won't pay for it either lol.
I also think in general, he's trying extremely hard to use being a nazi as a way to get a reaction / response from people. Essentially that's what all the freak far right grifters are trying to do, what with Elon doing the salute and all that... What I mean to say is that it's a waste of energy to even react to it at this point. Let all the bigots and vile pigs scream into the void.

As Mr. Garrison and Ms. Jenner might say "we're all vile pieces of shit now, honey."

I'm on what will probably be an indefinite hiatus of enjoying anything from or about this man.

I usually pirate his material, or listen to yedits/comps/leaks, There’s a 6k Groupbuy happening right now for a pre-TLOP era song, (claims to be “Can U Be” levels of grailed) it’s replacing both the “Champion” and “Yetopia” GBs.
I’ll still listen to his work, but I respect your opinion, but I’ll make sure that he doesn’t have any money.
