Very interesting man. Nice rhythms and textures...similar to Seefeel in a way. The melody line is a bit Lusine-ish in technique. A bit short though, as I'd like to hear more (though brevity has its merits).

listening to yours now. i'm loving the twisty bass lines and the shredding/fading in and out melodies. very chilled yet keeping me on the edge of my seat as if i'm being sent flying from point to the next. it's tight. nice work : )

I actually prefer the ending to this track. There's one sound in particular around 3:12 that I'd love to hear you play around with more (a little *whiiir-click*). The drums in the beginning can distract a bit, since they seem to be peaking in the mix. In any case, I wouldn't worry much about the end...I'd recommend saving that energy for strengthening the melodic structure during the first half, and tweaking those drums. T'was good to listen. : )

After months of searching I finally got a new sound going. Its kinda shoegazy/m83'ish but more low bit and gritty. I'm writing lyrics for it at the moment.

Still with the heavy compression though. I got some negative comments on it, I just think overcompression sounds so awesome.

Paracat - I quite like the overcompression too; it gives a Madlib/Flying Lotus edge to the track - though my only problem is that the drums kind of drown out the melody (though that may be the point).

Shadowshocker - Nice dark atmosphere. Sounds like being in a dimly lit and enclosed space with unknown insects skittering about the place (I think there was something to that effect in a Silent Hill game that it reminds me of). I'm quite interested as to where you're planning to take it.

And this is a track I've just done: 'I Can See My Floor' - another ambient laptop-monged guitar thing that is influenced by stuff like MBV, Seefeel, Cocteau Twins, Loveliescrushing, and the like.

the mixing is far from perfect I agree...but I love the way the melody is part of the wall of sound.

I really like your track! Very evolving, yet in a way that you can't really tell what's changing. I love ambient-sorta meshing sounds like this. Only criticism is some of the sounds are a bit harsh, but I am using some pretty cheap headphones, so it could be that too.

Treefingers: I REALLY LIKE YOUR TRACK.

I am starting small musical experiment as a project.
I plan to work with a vocalist and do some ambient soundscapes which will be experimental and largely random in nature.. sounds of a lonely apartment in the city.. lots of abstract vocals. VERY lo-fi.

Among my influences are Riceboy Sleeps and the Campfire Headphase.
funny that you (Treefingers) mention cocteau twins. I did a recording of 'Teardrop' (vocalist from cocteau twins & massive attack) a year ago.. and I found the old vocals/guitar tracks this week and was messing around with them trying to get an idea of the sound i want for this new project.

Keep in mind, this is using samples from my old 'Teardrop' cover. But It's all I have for now.

First of all, your track is sounding really really good as is. Was it meant to cut off sharply, though? It seems like the original track is longer than that.

But yes, if you want to make your sound seem a bit tattered, I recommend three things--band pass, resonance and distortion. Band pass removes the high and low frequencies surrounding a certain frequency (You can adjust this, I recommend just tinkering with it) and resonance boosts a certain frequency--just don't overdo it or it'll become very hard to listen to. I only use about 10% resonance and I keep it toward a high range close to where the band pass lays so that it doesn't resonate TOO much. Finally, a TINY bit of distortion can help with raw synths. Don't go very far with it or your pads will sound like something by Chris Clark or Merzbow and I assume that's not what you're looking for. Also I recommend, if you have the option, to sequence it so you distort the original sample first, THEN apply your band pass/resonance to it. It generally sounds better from what I've noticed in the past.

Also, if you have access to a turntable you could always record the crackling noises from that, though I don't really do so myself.

Yeah, the track cuts off. It was just an experiment with stuff I'd recorded about a year ago.

For the ambient chords I'll probably end up using long drawn out guitar and bass..
I am also thinking of how i could best make synthesized sounds I have guitarpro and have messed around with making midi-files, then converting them to wav and really fucking them up. But other than that... I have no idea.
