Aye, one of my friends just introduced me to them not long ago and they're rapidly ascending to "one of my favorite bands" status! I actually already quite enjoy Tied Up and Waba Duba, the only one of these that's new to me is Limbo (which is quite swell!). Them and YMO basically made the definitive sound of "yellow" music in the same way Ween made "brown" music I think :P

Here's a couple of my other recent favorites:

If The Campfire Headphase was a butterfly, would Acid Memories be the caterpillar?

Spot on!
There's something about the production of their tracks, dense, quirky and daaamn replayable. I wonder how long before they throw in the towel *shudder*, an end to that monolithic discography.

True that yellow magic orchestra share a common language (and name )

And to think this was used to soundtrack a Channel 4 sitcom. Quirky big-beat bliss, thanks Trellis. :D

In here is a tragedy, art thou player or audience?
Be as it may, the end doth remain:
all go on only toward death.

There is nothing which cannot become a puppet of fate
or an onlooker, peering into the cage.

The Orb - The End Of The End
phpBB [media]

A whole world away from their 90s ambient house heyday, and quite mainstream. But it still has all the slick mixing and offbeat charm any orb track has.
(plus the small few seconds of Dub Reggae slipped in at the end.)

Thanks for this, getting a kind of a vintage Delerium or Sleepthief vibe off it.

You ever listen to music and suddenly start feeling like you're looking into alternate timelines from twenty years ago?

Yes. Often. Certain albums and artists do that.
The serial experiments lain bootleg soundtrack with all it's ambience comes to mind. I imagine cold pre-millennium Decembers and deserted city centres. It puts me in a quite a strange emotional state.

I have fond memories of kart racing on rooftops and playing golf with grenades to this song. I also played Jackass: The Game

The Silent Hill soundtracks do that to me the most, but it extends to a lot of electronica from around that time period. The Boogiepop Phantom OST and Rei Harikami albums are big ones too. Speaking of which, do you know of a spot to find the Bootleg soundtrack other than YouTube?

My Lain bootleg MP3s came from the internet archive. This skilful uploader has all three OSTs included and in full. :)

Thank you :)

Sticking with the topic, I'm listening to the Silent Hill 3 Complete Soundtrack Ultimate Edition (again), which has been the purest embodiment of the feeling I brought up earlier. I guess because the protagonist is a teenager and incorporates themes of identity, growth, purpose, the world suddenly turning hellish around you, and most of all from a female's perspective, it strikes a heavy chord in me that even the heavily acclaimed second game doesn't. It's the Lain before Lain for me is what I'm getting at. I hate to get all emotional, but it's been a long weekend and I needed to get something out. Silent Hill is one of the few things I'll totally geek out about and the 3rd game means a lot to me. Yamaoka's sound design is incredibly on point here.

Spiritualized - Best Thing You Never Had (The D Song)
phpBB [media]

I wallowed in J. Spacemen's latest Spiritualized project today. Just taking in all the layers upon layers of his specially crafted cathartic space-rock.
Sinking further into it track by track. It's entrancing from start to finish. :D
