RIP Ennio Morricone

Surely one of the most important influential composers of the last century.

Absolutely love his work - there's so much going on in there. RIP Maestro.

Everyone knows and loves his spaghetti western soundtracks, but you might not have heard this absolutely brilliant slab of psych-funk:

John Williams must be his only real competition for the greatest ever soundtrack composer.
Wish I'd gone to see him when he came to Belfast a few years ago to conduct a concert of his music, apparently he got a minutes-long standing ovation as soon as he appeared on stage, before a note was even played.

RIP indeed. Anyone want to maybe collab on a tribute cover/a few?

Damn. That's a shame. I love western movies and his themes always send chills through my body. Especially the harmonica soundtrack from Once Upon a Time In The West. Great movie too.
A twoism tribute album sounds like a great idea!

Is it cliche that Ecstacy of Gold brings me to tears more than any other piece he did?

Definitely not. It's a brilliant piece of music.

So gutted he's passed, the man was a genius.

I have been going through a box of cassette tapes from my childhood. I had taped parts Morricone's "The Mission" soundtrack from CD to a tape when I was 12. I would listen to it in my bedroom by myself, and hearing the old tapes years later with the added hiss and warble really got to me, especially since Morricone's death was the same week. A true maestro <3
