I love melancholy in my art - great, wide, deep oceans of it. Nobody does melancholy, a sense of opportunities lost, the burden of duty, like Kazuo Ishiguro in Remains of the Day and Never Let Me Go. Two of my favourite novels, both masterpieces, with wonderful film adaptations (Never Let Me Go is a better interpretation of its source novel in my opinion). The man is a genius.
