Christ, some people are fucking dense.
Try taking your own advice. You're not half as smart as you appear to think you are.
How would you know? And I never said I was 'smart,' anyway. I'm sorry if I flipped out a bit there, but I get really ticked by people who think they are 'cool' for not caring about the overall trajectory of our society. Apathy is not cool.

And here I was thinking it was a reference to Trailer Park Boys...

The Friendly Stranger wrote:I just take offence with your general tone. You are very condescending and rude. We don't come here to be lectured regardless of your credentials. And I think you've got this all wrong if you believe people here think it's 'cool' to 'not care about the general trajectory of our society.' In the 3 years I've been on this forum, not once have I got that impression from anyone.

Or maybe it's a simple explanation of why you don't have to consider other peoples' ideas so that you can continue to feel comfortable and safe. Besides, I don't pay attention to the mainstream news media. I get my information from the source. So tell me, are academic and professional journals filled with 'sensationalist bullshit' research?

That is quite believable, yes. Journals are often written to prove a particular theory and research can be carefully selected and manipulated to support that one particular theory. Do you honestly believe that all journals and research papers written on this subject support this one viewpoint? Reading up on a subject doesn't make you 'right', especially when you have such heavy bias towards line of reasoning.
Actually most research journals (and the scientific method itself) have very rigorous methods for weeding out individual biases and crank theories. It's true that these publications promote certain cultural biases, such as the belief that the scientific method and deductive logic are the best ways to study various problems, but I doubt that you take issue with that.
To go from studying these problems in a disinterested, academic manner to taking a political/ideological position does require some meta-analysis which is likely to involve one's subjective experiences and interpretations of events, but whatever conclusions you reach, the facts remain the same. Thinking happy thoughts and proceeding with business as usual will not make our problems evaporate.
