So have I. If this was in any way verifiable I would put money on it, 2 chances to 1 against. At this point I think it's the best fit to explain the behavior of this MDG persona/alias.
I read over the scan that was posted recently of a 2005 interview, one where they hadn't yet admitted to being brothers. It comes off as very transparent in hindsight. Looking at the pictures where they are so obviously related, seeing the pretense that was put forward for years that their 'families' moved back and forth over the Atlantic at the same time, it reads as extremely self-conscious. It comes across as the opposite of the carefully constructed mythology of two people aloof from the world and their image within it.
I'm also doubtful that years later (20 years at this point?) whatever this 'Hexagon Sun' collective was remains a functional unit rather than friends who have largely moved on with their lives but may still stay in touch. The idea that there are people scanning the internet and discussion forums as agents of a band who hasn't released music in years may make for good 'TV', but it rings hollow to me. It's easy enough for a single person(s) to do that on their own these days. Likely only the musician them self would be so motivated.
As with many things in life it likely comes down to financial motivations. There is certainly some residual gain to be made in keeping up the image of a mysterious band that draws devoted followers. It could be for a brother himself or for someone with returns from merchandise or album sales. At this point however I would lean towards it being an alias, as years later I would think the residuals to be small in comparison with the gains to be had on a personal level in continuing a public image that has been so long invested in.
