Actually a good thing though. Trends keep people from really expressing themselves IMO.

Kinski wrote:this is how it's gonna be:

1. new album drops and is sold out everywhere thanks to how popular they are to internet hipsters.
2. in two weeks time first haters creep in.
3. Pitchfork gives it a 4/10 for the lols
4. Joyrex says it's quite good.
5. math nerds figure out everything on the album obviously and remotely related to the numbers: 70, 69, 1969, 13, 6, 666 and already predict the next release based off those numbers and dates of the year.
5. after a year of discussing the same crap specific people and newbies who just torrented the discography and already played it out will be abck at bitching there's no new boc in sight

the end.

Concerning # 5 don't lump everybody in there with "we" :P

+1 it limits creativity because you're confining yourself to sounding appropriate for that trend or specific genre.

Dubstep is fine. But people putting dubstep sections in pop songs because it is what's hot now is not cool.

It's like how in the early 90's everything had a rap during the bridge.

Good point, but Beck doing Loser, which was the first time he rapped on a song, not only bolstered his career but actually did a good job of it. To think it was allegedly ironic!

Too bad he never wanted that "drop out hippie" persona, but still went with it :D

haha. like Sonic youth's Kool thing. Or that REM song with KRS One. Eurrgh..horrible.
It still goes on. You still read about bands doing this sort of thing trying to up their credibility. Or chumps like Thom Yorke acting all 'scene'..haha.

With a new BoC record, I should imagine they're above such things. It's hard to think of them getting guests in on their recordings (particularilly anyone that's 'hip') but maybe they might surprise us. Similarilly I can't picture a new record coming out with them jumping on last months sound. Christ it takes em a whole year to get a track done..so clearly they own that sound then :)

If BoC had a rapper on one of their tracks off a new album, I'd be superpissed.

Well I don't hear dubstep in songs by Fever Ray, iamamiwhoami and Royksopp. It doesn't mean that other contemporary bands aren't doing it.

Solange may have hipped him to their music...haha. I suppose they have worked with those anticon guys with remixes and their music and their vocals sat OK together. Although personally I feel that the music on those remixes far outshines the vocals which I'm not that into. I've always thought it would have been great had they worked with Ivor Cutler. Not just because he was a fellow countryman. The results would have been interesting :)

Everyone has their own music.
And some people are idiots.
Those statements go together perfectly eh? :)

I haven't met anyone with bad taste in music who would admit it.
