C'mon, y'all know it'd be a good way to pass the time! And it wouldn't even have to be a contest. We could each interpret the track titles differently, create Closes vol. 1 (as imagined by [whomever], and compare our ideas and sounds.

I am totally up for this

*begins copying BoC tracks and renaming them*

This is probably going to make me resent myself. But oh well. It's not anything serious :D

I think Cupz has already kicked our asses with his interpretations of acid memories

Where is that Cupz fellow anyhow? Take me to our leader.

I'd like to see/hear that.

Edit: Found it. That's some great stuff, Cupz! And thanks saurus for mentioning it.

You obviously don't live in the UK. Or if you do you live under a rock lol.

1. Getting annoyed with their fans. They said they were annoyed with how everyone thought there were dark occultist meanings in TCH because of Geogaddi, and that's what their name was getting associated with frequently.

2. They don't seem to desire a large amount of fame. Probably even moreso now that they have a kid (or possibly kids).

3. Not getting along with Warp. I'm not sure about this, but I've been hearing older Warp artists haven't been seeing eye to eye with Warp lately.

4. It just seems like something they would do, wouldn't it? They love a good secret, it seems.

5. The brothers are most likely living separately, judging by the most recent interviews, so maybe on brother has released solo material on the internet with an alias or something.

6. C'mon, they just lost their urge to release music all of a sudden?

All speculation. You are letting your imagination running away with you.

At the end of the day I love BoC an awful lot but fuck them if they choose to continuely ignore their fanbase. Life goes on. I'll get over it. Quickly.

The only thing you mention which interests me is this conflict with Warp, which seems to crop up with Aphex Twin a lot. Does anyone know what the problem is? There is no smoke without fire.

It does intrigue me how Aphex and BoC get away very, very lightly without towing some sort of line. Autechre are always busy and cracking on with something (albums, tours, eps etc) but Aphex and BoC seem to sulk. A lot.

I think some of the recent interviews with Aphex mentioned he was going through a divorce and didn't release anything so his wife didn't get any money. It's somewhere on WATMM.
I don't know if he has any conflicts with Warp, but they are signing on some absolute shit lately, so I'd be quick to get out of there if it was me.
On-topic, that thing with BoC and Coil doing a collab sounds cool, at least it explains some of the wait, if they were doing that and making new music.

There has to be some contractual obligation between the band and warp when releasing new music, even under an alias, I imagine they would be in legal hot soup if they did this.

I'd refute that - Aphex has gone a bit quiet now, admittedly, but for years he's released stuff over a bunch of different aliases, and he's pretty much always recording, even if he doesn't put any of it out we still hear about it. And he tours, does gigs, does DJ sets announced an unannounced. Autechre as you say keep themselves busy too.

BoC on the other hand... I'm not debating the time and effort they put into the music they do make when they eventually get round to it but touring, engaging with the fan base, basically the other 90% of the stuff that bands are supposed to do? They have to be pretty much the least hard working band I know.

It's pretty ridiculous to make a claim that you know that they are least hard working band out there. For all you know, they've released music under aliases, much like RDJ. Also, they don't owe any of us any music whatsoever. As MDG has said, they have been busy living their lives, raising kids, etc etc. We should be grateful for the music they have given us.

Yes you're entirely right, it's entirely possible that they are incredibly productive and busy under other, secret aliases. Sorry but that's an almost solipsistically daft opinion; we have no way of knowing if it's true or not, but it's incredibly unlikely. And if it were true they had a hard-working alter ego, we either already like them or we don't, and knowing it was them wouldn't change that anyway.

I'm very deliberately NOT saying they owe us an album. I'm saying that look at what they do as BoC. Then look at ANY OTHER BAND - tours, promotion, reaching out to the fans, side projects, being able to correctly predict the release date of your album to a particular year and then coming out with more information than "lol, soz. out of our hands". I love the music and I'm sure they're nice guys but I can't think of an actual credible non-manufactured band that does less work for it. It is what it is, dude.

I'll agree with the statement that BoC don't owe us another album. What I find hard to accept is the total disregard for their fan base in regards to communication. I mean, how hard is it to type a several word sentence in one of the many social media outlets that they have accounts on and say something to the effect that they are still alive and are working on new material?...or are not as the case may be. The vague statements from MDG don't cut it. BoC have chosen to be musicians. That's their job for all intents and purposes. They know they have hundreds of thousands of fans waiting for even a shred of news. The lack of discourse with their fans borders on pretension in my eyes.

K, flame away.

Who makes you say they are disregarding their fans?

Lack of communication doesn't necessarily mean disregarding, it could be mean a number of things, family, travel, enjoying their lives.. etc..

Nearly all musicians don't make music for fans, they make it for themselves. By becoming a fan you buy into the idea of respect for the artist. Patience has been tested, but the wait will be worth it.

If there was no more music to come from the band. It would be stated very clearly.
