The vague statements from MDG don't cut it. BoC have chosen to be musicians. That's their job for all intents and purposes. K, flame away.

for the 100th time, they did told us all that. just because it's not n pitchfork it doesn't mean there's nothing happenin. you want a greeding card or what?

Look, lets all relax here. I'm not trying to provoke anybody. Jesus. lol. I know people have lives and things can get hectic. I'm sure their busy with life/family, etc. I completely understand that. I'm just simply wondering how much time out of their busy lives does it take to reach out to their loyal fanbase. All of a minute and a half? Is that really asking too much?

At first the mysteriousness of their lack of communication with any of their fans was refreshing and intriguing. Now it's just boring. They're still my favorite though, even if they never release another album again. I'd like to think they will though.

"For even as we worship our musical idols we also force them to produce particular emotions on cue. Musicians find themselves, in a a strange way, both enshrined and enslaved" -Alex Ross: The rest is noise.

I find that this passage sums it up rather well, a band does whatever it feels, it owes nothing to no one, you can only force it so much, and it's the same with writing, singing, painting, you can only force it so much before it becomes just going through the numbers... but then the result is a denatured representation of earlier glory. Being perfectionists as they are undoubtedly are, BOC might be working it's way through the changes of the world, the Earth of 1995 is NOT the same place as the Earth of 2011... so much has changed...

I'm not one to say anything bad about BoC themselves for the 5 years of silence (unless it comes from the Sandisons or Warp, I disregard everything else, now).

I don't feel like I'm in the place to criticize the Sandison bros. personally for the silence.

I will say, though, it's fucking frustrating, and if it weren't for the new Zelda game coming out this November (yeah, I'm a nerd), I'd be even more annoyed by it.

Boards Of Canada, The Legend Of Zelda, and Mad Men are the 3 things I'm sort of a fanboy towards.

I've just discovered Cocteau Twins and Nick Drake so am happily tided over! Stay positive y'all, we have to remember that this is still OUR speculation labelling them as not respecting fans etc.

Which way is the wind blowing today? Sometimes, I get all frustrated and annoyed with the lack of contact. But I have to remember that 'it was ever thus'. The only thing that's changed is the length of time involved and as a middle-aged bloke myself, I can understand that as life moves out of your 20's and through your 30's it only gets more and more complicated, with more and more demands being made of 'your' time. Timescales slip, plans are moved, life changes.

This doesn't mean they couldn't put up a quick announcement, but as I've said before, would this actually help?? 'Hi - Mike and Marcus here. Sorry for the delay. We're working really hard on this but we keep changing our minds/moving onto new tracks/disregarding old tracks. Truth be told, we keep thinking it'll be ready next month, but next month comes around and we've moved onto something new (again). Maybe next month eh? Back to the grind....'

At the end of the day, the whole 'silence is mysterious' thing is bullshit. (a) this is something we've used/invented ourselves to fill in the blanks, (b) they've said themselves, many years ago, they find it odd as it's not their intention - they just don't like doing media. MDG - please correct me if I've dreamed that (can't find the interview to source at the moment).

My only hope is that whenever they decide to call it a day, they let us know. Otherwise this site could turn into a digital version of one of those mid-Pacific islands after the 2nd World War, with Japanese soldiers not believing the war had ended decades later

I think clearly nobody feels the brothers are obliged to communicate, but i think out of curtosy rather than obligation it might be a good thing- i guess as fans we bought into that long ago,we accept it's just how they are.

I get the impression they are perhaps quite beligerant towards or bemused by their fanbase. It's their choice to be like that at the end of the day. All of us would probably like them to be a touch more open, but we have to accept that it's not the BoC way.

It has to be said, though, that it is very unusual for an artist to be like that - the guys don't come accross as awkward or introverted from their interviews, so it seems strange they are so cut off.
We had a dream last night. We had the same dream.

We got into [making music] because we love music, not because we want to be in the press. In fact, it’s all the industry bullshit that makes us stay away in the first place. But our reticence has backfired on us on occasions because if we stay quiet it creates a vacuum where speculation and bullshit can thrive.’

Hahah!!! Fantastic Mexicola. You just hit the nail on the head my good man.

I would also disagree with this attitude of thinking 'it's okay to ignore your fan base, they don't owe us anything'. Mmmm I would like to think if you were my fanbase and spent well earned money on me I would at least give you a scrap of something. Not waving my cock about in Hello! but at least give you a nod. But hey!! That's just me!

Have some of you ever thought that BoC probably hate this website? And that we are just a complete pain in the ass? LoL
