The black box, as vague as it is, was your press release.

As the time goes since the appearance of the black box, that's what I also tend to think. I wouldn't be surprised if they try to innovate on the way they release their album. They're not marketers, and they already said that they don't like this habit of everyone knowing everything about what their artists are doing.
How amazing would it be if for example they just give us a link to buy the album online, without any information about it except the price. We'd discover the name of the album, the cover and the tracklist by ourselves, when receiving the package. Maybe they'd even do like Radiohead did with their In Rainbow album, with the free-or-donate thing. But that's really unlikely, I think I'm just tired of waiting so I'm having really dumb ideas.
I third this notion. I remember when NIN released their "Ghosts" album and it overloaded/crashed the website in two minutes. This business model seems to really work for veteran artists with a strong fan base.

I'm unsure if Warp would allow this though. They seem pretty traditional in how they release the music from their label. (Then again, I don't follow Warp that tightly, so correct me if I'm wrong).

Right now, I'd just be happy if they released one new tune.

Nevermind an album, surely they have something they could give us ? Just to tide us over till the album drops ?

Anyone?

Well, I don't believe that BoC would ONLY release their album online (which is probably Warp's main concern), nor would I want that. My main point is just that usually now days when a new album comes out, online digital downloads are the absolute first means of accessing it.

On the note of NIN, TR pulled it off well with the matter of digital/physical releases very well. The system that he employed was, say maybe you're a collector and you want your album in a physical format, so you place an order for the CD/Vinyl/DualDisc/SACD/Blu-Ray/whatever right when it releases, BUT in addition to that you get to download the album right away in FLAC/MP3/WAV/whatever so you don't have to wait to hear it and you can experience it within minutes after its release. I would hope BoC employs something like this. It would be easier for BoC to sustain an online distribution as well. BoC has a significantly smaller fan base than NIN and I highly doubt the website would be crashed, although it would be stressed a bit. If they used a torrent based system instead of mirrored servers, it would make it even better as well and collectively you'd have more speed and no worries about a crash. You make it a private tracker with a password and there you go.
Okay...now...wait for fog machine.

If lots of musicians go out of business, then there's only going to be a smaller number of extremely commercial crap artists to choose from.

Of course, though, times have changed.
