Speaking of Radiohead...I like how Portishead's Geoff Barrow samples National Anthem here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZG7I9Qu6-Rw .

I know it's a cliche but it's like good wine; nobody gains anything from it being rushed out before it has reached its peak, whereas you can allow for the process to take its time and ultimately reap the rewards.

Like a fine wine, indeed. I have infinite patience since there is so much other good music to soak up right now.

Sometimes I think we are actually in the Golden Age of music...

I say this a lot sometimes. I hate when people completely reject the idea based on what they hear on the radio, or just complain that nothing sounds like prog rock anymore (unless it does sound like prog rock, in which case they say it's unoriginal).

Yeah, take that - older generation!
Well the older generation seems to be having some problems evolving and finding those right channels for the "good" new music, which they could be able to appreciate. Some of the older fellas I know have a very selective taste in music and they are really stubborn on trying something new. Well I can say it seems to be a thing among many of us. You just have to be open and discover something new without really thinking that "This is not what I used to listen/This is what I like". I've tried broadening my musical taste with more objective view and I think it has helped me to discover some amazing stuff I would have not digged few years ago.

Thomas Bangalter (of Daft Punk) said in an interview:

When you're a child you don't judge or analyze music. You just like it because you like it. You're not concerned with whether it's cool or not. Sometimes you might relate to just one thing in a song, such as the guitar sound. This album (Discovery) takes a playful, fun, and colorful look at music. It's about the idea of looking at something with an open mind and not asking too many questions. It's about the true, simple, and honest relationship you have with music when you're open to your own feelings.

That's a good explanation. I think one of the big problems with our culture today is that there are a lot of shallow, boring people who define themselves in terms of what they consume, so they are concerned with 'liking' things that are 'cool' or 'sophisticated.' For example, even if you find Lady Gaga's songs fun and entertaining at a basic level, you don't want to publicly admit this because it wouldn't fit with whatever identity you are trying to create. If you filter your experience of the world this way long enough, you might eventually internalize the filters and actively block new experiences with thoughts about how something is wrong or uncool.

I think one thing that would help would be if people agreed to stop relying so much on language to describe and analyze art and just focus on the way it makes us feel.

I agree. Language does a lot of damage in different ways because we're confined to express and understand ourselves and the world through it. But then again I filter music based on my own internal standards of what's acceptable/not. I like to think I like music because there is something respectable musically in what I listen to.

Also, I think that as far as us being in the golden age of music, I agree, but I also think that it's going to get better and better because like anything music evolves.

I have great tickets for June 6th. If a new album actually comes out this year it may turn out to be one my best ever.

Yeah the Avalanches are maybe worse than BoC because they keep saying it's coming but it never does.
At least BoC only says it's coming when it does actually come.

Although, they have suggested it's been coming through representatives, or whatever, for a long while now, albeit not as consistently as The Avalanches.
It seems a lot of the very best acts are guilty of these fruitless release announcements. The Stone Roses' Second Coming took forever.
It's also been happening with My Bloody Valentine for years, and it seems the've finally got something on the way (see This Random Sound).

Maybe all the currently hotly anticipated release, Avalanches, MBV, BoC etc. will all come out within a couple of months of each other. That would keep my ears busy.
