tempted to wear my more-well-worn boc shirt, write "ARE DEAD?!!?" underneath it and push to front row to try to get a laugh

zombie makeup for additional effect

I strongly enforce this idea.

Excellent idea - be sure to take a snapshot of it if you do!

What on earth is this? Sounds like a complete BOC rip-off.

Agreed! There are tons of those now a days and its getting annoying. I find it easier to make my own sound rather try to sound like someone. synth+pitch warble=INSTANT IDM STAR. but really...

I dig other stuff that has a boc influence but Ciaran Byrne is a bit bland.

I still respect the dude for making tunes in the first place though and maybe he'll find his own dig eventually.

Now hold on, ciaran byrne is a nice fellow and an excellent musician. He was once an active member of this forum, untill the great twoism departure of 2008, where we lost allot of great members.

He actually has multiple aliases (Adeyhawke anyone?), and this one is obviously boc inspired.

Funny, I didn't know there are so much haters of C. Byrne here. :D
However, those are early works. He defined his style on the officially released albums.
Example: Ciaran Byrne - Axiom

It's been a couple of years since I listened to it but 'Nine Lives Causeway' is a great album! Obvious BoC influence, but he puts his own spin on it. If you can get past your first reaction I bet you'd appreciate it as well. Atmospheric, melodic, and patiently developing. Give it a listen.

I'll give it a try man. Yet again, i'm sorry. I don't rant a lot on the internet and I was a bit out of wits

Really guys.... Come on now.... Is it really even for you say that a piece of electronic music is a rip off of another piece of electronic music? Ciaran Byrne obviously isn't a HUGE star for his "rip offs" and i would assume he enjoys creating the sounds he produces. I dont know how to put into words how i really feel about this subject but its wonderful music and i doubt he was trying to rip off Aphex Twin or anyone else for that matter.

You've got your rip-offs, 'inspired by' works, inevitable soundalikes of varying degrees, your 'cross between artists x and y' and seamless shades of grey in between - who is to say what is what?

The only person who can know the intention is the artist, and I do feel it all comes down to intention.

Electronic music, man, we're spoiled for the whole "defining your own sound" thing because the gamut is so wide and it's relatively new. Rock music, yeah, you get an artist come around once in a while who does something genuinely new and everyone loves it but most of the time it's going over old ground sonically. Doesn't take away from it though, if it's done well, and there's no shortage of great rock albums.

There comes a point when it's fine to say "this sound has more mileage in it" and you can use it to make new things. Maybe an artist hears something that's 90% there and can think of a way to tweak it, maybe it's a new picture painted with an old brush. It depends like you say on whether the artist is being genuine or just trying to cash in, and that tends to be obvious in the result.

I'm not arguing against invention, but it's a fool that thinks invention is everything.

Haters gonna hate, I guess. "Let Down Lee" by Ciaran Byrne really helped me through a rough spot in life. I bought his first album, "Galtrim", which I highly recommend. I'm surprised no one has taken a shit on Tycho yet! He also makes brilliant music.

Oh yeah, and fuck all the self righteous snobs.
