after scrolling through this thread. i think i understand why boards of canada's early work was only given to family and friends.

We will all just have to wait and see, it amazes me how much people read in to things, it will be released when it's released, I predict 17.12.12, please don't read anything into that I am only joking...

I have a feeling that they haven't been able to release anything because things keep going wrong for them, like maybe a lot of financial trouble, or personal issues, or maybe even all their old equipment is breaking. I don't know. It could also be that they don't like the limelight much and are waiting for the excitement to die down. But those are just theories.

Time passes so much slower with the convention of the internet involved.

As an aside, as much as everyone probably deplores this thread.. Let us remember that it is serving its purpose; it's preventing the birth of the 10-or-so threads per week all about the same subject. It's been a very good cesspit.

I think BoC live in a different space-time continuum than the rest of us.

Just for your information it's been almost 5 years since MDG starting talking about an upcoming album at WATMM, and we're into year 6 since 'hex_official' first mentioned an album release was close on the Yahoo! group. See here -

I apologize if after the years of talking about this here I seemed to be predisposed to rain on the parade. I've just gotten the announcement and lined up along the route time after time and nothing ever comes by, with no explanation. It's that no explanation that I get stuck on and which frustrates me. Don't tease me.

While it seems that most of those who see this as well have given up talking about it or left the forum from eventual disinterest, there's nothing more I'd like to see than real news of an upcoming release. It keeps me coming back time after time in hopes of finding something.

Whoops my bad. I thought he joined in 2009.

I really could care less whether someone's said this or not already, which I'm sure they have, but I'm really curious where BoC could go with their sound on a new release- I feel like it's going to be more of a return to Music has the Rights kinda sound if anything. Though I'm sure whatever it ends up sounding like my ears will agree with it.

It's probably been said, but you all think they are really going to release it on 12/21/2012? In the grand scheme of conspiracies, occult references, scientific mumbo-jumbo...wouldn't that be kind of, like, way to obvious of an idea and totally lame? At least that date would fall into this year, haha.
I'm a man that does not strive for a certain genre, in his music. Ugliness among beauty. Or is the other way, around? Maybe just all ugly.

I'm sure they're still fascinated with numbers, sequences, and interesting dates.. but I don't think that's the line of interesting dates they're uhh.. interested in ;)

A little cheesy!

No, no, if they did do it.. It wouldn't be that obvious.

Personally I'd just like someone from Warp or whatever to say, "Yeah, there is a release due, don't make plans for Christmas you'll be spending it on here arguing about their new direction...Chinese Opera meets Maori Haka."

Oi, that's my idea!

Now you've gone and blabbed it, someone will release an album before me, and in the blink of an eye my past 6 years of work will become 'derivative'... I'm very cross.

BoC themselves probably don't want to pick such a cheesy date for releasing their next record, but what if Warp wants it that way? Marketing-wise...

Also.. new clear dawn, the atomic bomb banner @ warp website, apocalyptic themes, the FNORD picture (Fnord is the typographic representation of disinformation or irrelevant information intending to misdirect, with the implication of a worldwide conspiracy.).. their interest in dark themes (cfr Geogaddi)..

I just can't let the idea slip my mind that it might all be relevant and related to their new record. Perhaps the website wasn't supposed to leak that early.

I still reckon New Clear Dawn is an awesome album title. I hope it will get used!

I personally dislike that title and think it sounds like a 'generic alternative band' record. But at this point, I'll buy a BoC album called 'Album 123', just so long as it contains material I haven't heard. :P

do people think it's going to be a departure to their more psychedelic sound or a return? I'm really curious what new material would sound like.

It could be something entirely different, who knows?
