That sums it up very nicely!

The whole view of being 'owed' something in terms of new music makes no sense to me; it's sort of bizarre, and overlooks the point that creative ideas cannot be bought or forced. If they are forced - out deadlines or 'obligations' to fans - the music isn't genuine anymore; it's not a proper and full representation, it needs to flourish.

You wouldn't expect a skilled canvas artist to rush a painting in a week at someone's request if it actually takes them several months to develop it to the quality that said requester expects of them in the first place... It seems like a counter-productive ask.

I think that illustrates why, IMHO, it seems a bit mad to want an album produced as something owed / obligatory, rather than something born of a natural idea and carefully developed in its own time. So I'd consider the wait to be a good sign. And while some will disagree, I honestly think there's lots of equally great or better music from others around in the meantime.

My comments here are not specific to BOC's working on stuff, but can be true of any artist.

The few last pages of this topic (and pretty much all of it, to think about it) made me think of one band. Kraftwerk. In 1986, they release Techno Pop (renamed Electric Cafe), and waited 17 years to release original content with Tour de France in 2003 (I'm not counting The Mix, in this). 17 years, guys. And it was (I think) worth the wait. And now, it'll be 10 years from then for their next record (if there is any). But, as for BoC, I'm patiently waiting, hoping it'll be for the best, and not hyping myself too much in case it's just "okay".
Heck, I just started buying all the EPs I can (after having the discography only from the net, except albums), and what a surprise I had when I discoverd Twoism in it's full form, and so much for Peel Session too.

Just think about it. It could be 10 years from now for the next record. Enjoy the time you're having. Don't think about when it will happen. Think about how you could use that time to be as happy as you wish. :)

Have a nice day, Twoism-ers!

I sure hope as hell that the brothers have never, ever read Pattern Recognition by William Gibson ;)

I lurked this site a bit since I found it, occasionally checking back on this topic. I unfortunately do not have any insights towards the next boc album.

I had a dream I saw the cover once, it was yellow-y orange. Something tells me it won't be yellow-y orange, but it was cool regardless.

who knows... if it's released soonish orange/yellow would be an appropriate fall sort of thing.

I sorta hope the release involves seasons or whatever in some way- music that tends to inform of a specific season gives me ultra nostalgia whenever I'm brought back to that season. Summer has a very "campfire headphase" impression for me.

I think we'll be seeing something from them on 12/21. Even if it's just an announcement for an album, I can't see them letting the date pass by without comment.

I can, it would be so cheesy. Maybe if the Mayan Long Count calendar wasn't so highly publicised.

Incorrectly publicized- that date is not the end of the world in their calendar it just marks some kind of significant paradigm shift or something of the like and those who can't accept change perish with it.

It's simply when the calendar ends, thus the beginning of a new count. It's only been miscontrued by conspiracy enthusiasts declaring the apocalypse. Y2K all over..

Take tipping, for instance. Tipping (especially in other cultures, but let's talk about the West for now) used to be a pretty optional thing. If someone provided you great service, then you tip them a little extra. It's become so socially standard now, that unless the waiter was terrible, you are expected to tip.

Side note - please tip your waiter/waitress, even for moderate service. Their wages are cut to below minimum wage (at least in the states) because their employer can say "they'll earn tips, so I don't have to pay them as much." Not everyone knows that.

Yes, please tip! I want to supplement Waterbagel's statement: even though we technically get 'paid' a wage, every single last penny of that wage goes to taxes, so it's either tips or nothing, I've never picked up a check in my entire serving career. The only reason we get paid a wage at all is so they CAN tax us. It sucks, I can't wait to finish my college degree....

anyways back on topic/

Just listening to Geogaddi... I can understand the delay. I've only listened to this album about 20 times in 10 years. My brain can't deal with any more than that.

Lost the disc of mine. I *think* it may have been in my car when I totalled it, and someone had away with it.

BoC is the only band / group / whatever that I have seen that has caused this much noise from being so quiet. Please, please, PLEASE let there be a new album before I die - It can be in 30 years I don't care, just want to hear 1 new release from them before I'm gone and I can die happy.

I know right? I still haven't been able to digest yet myself. And I finally delved into it last year, after not really touching it for a good 3 years after getting it.

Just saw a Facebook message with Boards of Canada in the text, nearly wet myself, then I saw they were just paying homage to the guy about to do the world record skydive, and using it as a useful opportunity to do a bit of BoC plugging. Left disappointed. :(
