It's disgusting it's ended up on this thread to be honest, everyone's entitled to their opinion but she's still someone's mum at the end of the day. I feel bad for the amount of shit her family will be seeing and hearing at the moment. It's not like she was even in power recently, Jesus.

I think it's fair to say you can't please everyone all of the time, it's ridiculous people are making so much fuss (ie the rioting) and most of them don't know wtf they're talking about as they weren't even born at the time!!!!!

So nice to see I'm not alone on this one :)

On a related note, but bringing a little happiness:

The NHS! my God, I love the NHS. Having spent much of last weekend in an isolation unit in a children's hospital, there are no words that can describe how wonderful our health service is. The staff in there are just the type of people to restore your faith in humanity. I'm off to hug a nurse....

I don't think it's a discussion that should be stopped, perhaps a mod can split off into a different topic?

I am not in the mood to put a positive spin on anything, because I am in the middle of writing a dissertation, but yeah, the NHS is awesome :P *trying so hard to refrain from moaning about tories/americans*

Bet that took some courage. Poignant speech.

Good to see Labour actually being Labour, as well.

This was also a brilliant piece, some brilliant passages which ring true.

There are times when I find Russell Brand incredibly annoying and fake. And there are other times when the mask slips a little and I see a highly intelligent, insightful and articulate person.

On the whole, this is mainly the latter. An excellent read.

I agree with you there mate, his piece on the riots was also spot on. Maybe he should do more journalism and less hollywood schmoozing.

Nice one, well done. I graduated on Friday with a distinction in a part-time degree I've been doing for the past four years.

I remember a programme Brand did a while ago about drugs and his own addiction. There was a bit in it where he addressed (I think) a commons committee. It was absolutely outstanding. Here it is -

I love the faces of some of the committee, obviously thinking 'Weren't we told this guy was an idiot?'
