gosh...this live recording really is quite beautiful. i sure hope 2014 sees a new release from SOTL. and indeed some live performances in the UK to support it.

And Pan-American! I couldn't find anybody to accompany me to Chicago that weekend, but by Thursday I was seriously considering going by myself.

Kinda wish I had now.

Sorry - such a late response here. I had a great time. A great deal of the material I didn't recognize but they did play Requiem and December Hunting to great effect. Sadly, something was wrong with Adam's guitar and there was some unintended distortion during the set.

Was still awesome though. Stopped and chatted (and got my Kranky poster signed) with Adam and Brian. Got a pic with Adam too which I ought to share. They both couldn't have been more friendly or available. I love this 'band'.

The new material sounded excellent by the way. Loscil was good too - though I admit I don't follow him as closely and couldn't/didn't recognize the material. Mr Kranky was there too - didn't get a chance to chat with him but all in all it was worth it.

For some reason that Stars of the Lid link is getting redirected. Can anyone provide a different link? I assume the recording is sanctioned/legal?

Yeah, that URL does work, but you need to cut/paste the whole thing manually.

Doesn't like the [URL] function for some reason? Go figure..

Giving up trying to get my bloody soundcard to perform the simple task of recording 'What you Hear'. Suspect it's a driver issue as reading rumours that it's been disabled to stop piracy!

Gone old school and recording onto cassette instead

Listening to it now. Agree with all of this.

Earlier this year, a friend from work that i'd introduced SotL to was getting a massage (part of a wedding present, all very innocent, or so he told me) and recognised the music playing...turns out the masseuse plays SotL regularly and the customers love it, anyway her husband is trying to get them to play at the Sonic Arts Research Centre in Belfast, presumably in its auditorium that has 360 degree surround sound... it would be a dream come true indeed.

Well I've had a 'fun' afternoon. Finally managed to rip it down to C90 cassette and then back onto my hard drive as two WAV files (side A and side B). Then after some buggering about to get the levels at least similar, dropped into MP3.

Seems almost shameful to fart around with this music in such a way, but there you go.

Might not be amazing quality (EDIT: just checked it - quite noisy/hissy, first track overly bassy, gets better after that, but points docked for (a) my mobile interfering at least once and my PC bleeping it's impatience during December Hunting, FFS!) but anyone interested, here it is.
I've enclosed a photo of the setlist, including the new song titles (I'm guessing they're provisional at this stage).

Don't go getting too excited. As I said, the quality isn't the greatest. If I get time, I'll do it again and tidy it up a bit. Still, better than nothing I guess? Just..

Whilst not quite as sexy as Mexi's lo-fi cassette version, I did a bit of digging and you can download the MP3 directly here: http://audio.wnyc.org/qtwo/qtwo131230stars.mp3

Magnifico.

Cheers! Saves me re-recording the damn thing

EDIT: some vids appearing on YouTube now too. Pretty killer version of 'December Hunting...' starts around 7 mins in. 8)
