I made a visualizer-style video for one of my newer tracks that I think came out fairly well. my first time doing anything like this, so it's certainly not perfect...

Full 720p video can be downloaded here (and I recommend it, since even "HD" youtube quality is sub-par) if anyone is interested.

Working on this at the moment, pretty slow at 53 bpm but I'm fairly happy with the layering of sounds, there's a singing bell, some heavy wind, Tibetan chimes and an oscillator used for detecting bats at night which converts frequencies above 20khz into a range we can hear, along with a bunch of normal instrumentation too, opinions and feedback would be cool guys

this is beautiful! was not at all expecting the vocals. really great, mellow mix, and I love the bass line.

if I might offer a critique: I think the mix would benefit greatly if you pulled the main "drone" back in the mix once the vocals come in (or moved it up an octave). it takes up a lot of mid-high frequency space and makes the mix sound a little too busy. once the pretty little background melody comes in at 1:08, the drone just straight up gets in the way. once the drone drops out at 1:44, the mix immediately has more space and life.

either way, really great work overall!

Thank you so much for listening, I know what you mean, the mid frequencies proved to be a bit of a bitch mixing it, especially the ending where theres about 6 different synths blended with the radio noises and singing bowl, I'll have to give it a try with the main pad during the vocal sections, I'm also unhappy with the sibilants on my vocal no matter how much I compress the S's and frequencies between about 7-10khz it doesn't come out right haha

the vocal siblance never jumped out at me as being overpowering or obnoxious, for whatever that's worth. the unfortunate fact is that if you track with a bright mic with too much sensitivity in that range, no amount of processing will ever make it sound both natural and clean/not overpowering. however, you've obviously done a great job with what you had! I look forward to hearing future iterations (and new stuff, of course).

did a quick improvisational piece. It's been a while since I actually sat down with a piano, probably the most lost I've gotten while recording in a while

Pretty tune. It reminds me of Pure X.

This is insane! absolutely love the flute, and how pretty much every other tonal sound takes cues from it, like when to pause and when to bloom a bit. you've got a fan 8)

Thanks for the kind words! Honestly, a lot of that was all by surprise. I didn't naturally intend for those things to go in and out like they did. That was more or less a happy accident, the way it all came together.

Here is an initial rough draft of my current project, Making Amends:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W_GlnCh8mQA

This is actually a complete remake of a piece of music I wrote ten years ago, as a 75-minute-long composition. That first section is pretty much unchanged, but it's only the beginning. Feedback appreciated.

Fernie - I liked the mix of acoustic guitar and drums with electronics. I dunno if the synth sounds are that... good? I mean I know its a draft but still. The rhythms were nice though.

scyye - I thought it started out kinda plain, though I liked the percussion. Then that jumpy arp synth thing came in and I liked that. There's also some nice harmonies going on with the chords.

Nick, you are a fantastic fella ya know. After all these years you're still popping in to honestly critique and thus help out with peoples music. And people should listen closely, cuz you're a talented musician yourself, with a good ear. I've always been a fan of your work and musical suggestions. You were the one who first introduced me to Tame Impala all those years ago. I guess I just wanna say thanks.
