I know I'll probably be the only one who cares about this,
but in the Random Sound thread "post what you're working on", a user who kicked up a stink when I called them out on doing a music drop 'n' run, has not logged into their account since December, even after we apparently made up and everything was cool.
Now I know, there'll be people who just are like "well, why get upset, it's not hurting you, just ignore it if you don't like it", but for me and the people who've been here and made names as regulars, it's as if there's a long line to the "recognition" desk, and someone's pushing in.
We spent time here knowing the community and being friends with as many people here as we can, so that if/when we want to drop things, people will happily listen and give feedback. Then these people come in and say "listen to my shit" and then go off. It's like, why do we even bother if it's all about the clicks on your soundcloud profile and the downloads on your bandcamp.
They're taking all the fun out of being musicians, getting to know other musicians and having that camaraderie. Getting to be a part of a special community of people who you call friends. It's conversations on here and other places that make making music a side thing to being part of a community, and the interaction with everyone the main draw of being here. If you want instant gratification, go to /mu/ because everyone there is anonymous, but don't come here with your 5 posts, and say "I'll stick around, just listen to my stuff!" because no one buys it.
This isn't a dig against that user in particular, because this has happened before (and blown up in quite a negative way), and this will happen again. I'm just airing my thoughts.
To sum up, people that simply want to drop their music without making friends:
People will click, but they won't click again, they won't remember you and they won't care about your music.
