Geogaddi has a greater hook for me, then Mhtrtc I went straight for the music, both are great, with Mhrtch sligthly above, my taste, tho I would recommend Geo

Understand what you mean. Campfire Headphase is warmer, Tomorrow's Harvest has really grown on me (darker again) and perhaps MHTRTC has become over-familiar?

Yeah, I suppose that MHTRTC is a little over-familiar. Tracks like Roygbiv and Aquarius are classics, though.

To me, MHTRTC you have to listen to a few times to really enjoy it. If you're just getting into Boards music, you should definitely listen to MHTRTC first, but then Geogaddi. Geogaddi just has a better feel to it to me.

Well opposite for me, Geogaddi is more mysterious, and Mhtrtc is just amazing album, but these albums is more than 10 y old so it's really hard to say, Geogaddi has amazing short tracks, Music - turquoise hexagon sun (prob my fav boc track), it's really hard to choose, but to look back, Geo was the album that really took my attention, despite I listened to Mhtrtc already before

Yeah, that's basically what happened for me. I heard a few songs before (I think from IABPOITC and Trans Canada Highway), but Geogaddi really stood out to me.

In Whitewater, I wish the main synth chords that come in at 58 seconds didn't pan quite so severely.

What a great tune though.

NO.

NO.

They must be free to roam the stereo spectrum.

It may make the track sound amateurish a little, but that is the attraction of boc maxima and the old tunes.

All of their worst songs are contained on MHTRTC. (See Rue the Whirl, The Color of Fire, Open the Light)

Wow, surprising. The Color of the Fire is a beautiful track, probably the the track that most conjures up the 70s for me.

Rue the Whirl I understand, I've never been a fan of that track. The melody loop is irritating.

Open the Light is beautiful.

You say these are their worst, what about Basefree (for me)? Uritual (unremarkable, the only one on TH that I don't find engaging)?

Honest question here, no offence intended, but how long have you been a fan? MHTRTC seems to grow on everyone eventually, as a new fan I didn't get into it until later on.

I suppose that's why I thought it might be a controversial opinion.

I really really like Basefree, but I've noticed it seems people either really like or really dislike this track, I've never seen someone think 'Basefree is OK'.

I also think Open the Light is kind of meh, there's something about it that doesn't hit me like Aquarius or Happy Cycling does.
However Color of the Fire is awesome (apart from the segue between I Love U and King of Carnival, which is so fucking loud it's uncool).

Rue the Whirl is ok. It's a bit repetitive, but when the reverse drums come in and the new melody enters the song I begin to enjoy the song a lot more.

My least favourite BoC song is probably Seeya Later. Why? I don't really know, I love Twoism and Hi Scores to bits (the EPs) but I ALWAYS skip this song (yes I've tried to give it a chance by listening to it but it just seems so... meh).

Agreed on Open the Light. For a 4 and a half minute track it doesn't particularly do that much.

Hey, I've only been a fan for 4 years so you could be totally right about those tracks growing on me but this is how I feel as of now.

The Color of Fire is a cool idea for a song, but for me it kind of falls flat and doesn't go anywhere. I also wasn't born in the 70's so maybe I just don't get that particular vein of nostalgia, but I really get the nostalgia in most songs so I think it might just be that song.

Open the light also sounds great for like 2 minutes before it gets boring, but if it was like Roygbiv length I might feel differently.

The album has really grown on me in the past couple years, but maybe one day I'll like it more. I didn't count Basefree because it's on an EP, not an album and I think uritual doesn't really count since it's more of a vance piece and I don't really judge it as a full length song.

If you disagree with me on anything I'd love to talk more about it!

I guess the only thing I can add to this discussion is that if those are the worst Boards of Canada songs you can think of, then I think there must be a very large number of Boards of Canada songs you have never heard or, at the very least, never really listened to.

I kind of get it - no problem with Open the Light, but Color of the Fire and Rue the Whirl are the weakest links on an otherwise perfect album. I'll take either one of them over things like Basefree, Zoetrope or the final 1/3 of The Campfire Headphase. They both have great titles though

That tune called dipshit. It's really controversial in my opinion. Id love to open the light on it, but I'll leave it alone. Not really feeling the vibe of this thread.

Condescending much? I've listened to every available album and EP many, many times and I developed my own opinion, sorry if you don't agree with it.

Nahhhh. Can't get on board (heh) with that. Color of the Fire is a strong atmospheric track to me. Zoetrope is fucking incredible, I've sobbed like a kid to that track.

I have my own opinion of the last 3rd of TCHP that seems to run counter to most. Yes, the album is very frontheavy but I really think it was intentional. Assuming the overall narrative follows that of a trip (not necessarily caused by psychoactive drugs mind you!), which I believe it does, the final 1/3rd is substantially less exciting because it is supposed to be calm and introspective. In comparison to the massive headrush near the beginning. I still hold that the last few tracks are strong. The only weak link for me is Hey Saturday Sun, which I know a lot of people don't find that impressive.

Settle down, Beavis. The point of the thread is to post your opinions and then discuss them ("If you disagree with me on anything I'd love to talk more about it!") not get all offended when someone disagrees with you. This is twoism not tumblr.

That was a serious statement that was not at all meant to be insulting in any way. Using any objective basis for comparison, there are a staggering number of Boards of Canada songs that are much worse. And this is coming from someone who dislikes Rue the Whirl with the fiery passion of a thousand angry suns. However, opinions aren't objective. They are subjective, so yeah.

When I said never really listened to, I was alluding to how many time twoism members have described hating a track then suddenly discovering they love it because of some aspect of the song or the moment they heard it. To put this into perspective, I wasn't a fan of Color of the Fire either until a friend of mine who had never heard Boards of Canada heard that song in my car on the way home from work and actually started to tear up when he recognized the sample. It evoked so strong of an memory from his childhood that I instantly understood what so many other people had said about that song. From that day forward, I've always taken when people say they actively hate a track with a grain of salt.

Now let's all hug and make up. I'll start the Campfire. You get the s'mores.

Sorry man, I misinterpreted what you said. Anyways, I love S'mores and campfires (especially headphases) so I'll go get the graham crackers!
