A track like Soon can slip into your subconscious, more than anything on S/T, for me anyway.

UMO, at least with their first record, has very little in the way of effects. Everything's in your face, the beats and the bass especially.
It feels less like a simple structure intended to be hypnotic, and more like a copy/paste/copy/paste scenario.

Sorry for the late reply.

Yeah I was just comparing the simple song structure not the overall approach or sound, and how it affected my tired ears. Probably not the best comparison in the world.

Anyway despite the repetitiveness I think it is pretty accomplished, if only in terms of the sound UMO were going for. They really hit the nail on the head with their pallet and mixing. It is a fun headphone album for me, the soundstage is unorthodox.

1. conversation with differing opinions =/= argument
2. I feel XXYXX is pretty standard in the way of that trap rap beats and house music. Not terrible, and I've jammed to tracks of his when they come on at parties, but he's far from original or ground breaking.

My pop used to play all these old 50's and 60's instrumentals when I was very young and it's the first genre of music I really got into. I've gone back these classics time and time again throughout my life... been in one of those phases again. Here's one of my favorites by Link Wray, whom I once had the honor of opening up for before he died a few years back with my dad's blues band in which I play blues harmonica. I love this song for the sheer vibe and sound. I love how the drum beat is just solid and doesn't change throughout the song. In the pocket. And that bridge just sends me. Less is more. :)

I've been listening to this a fair bit after they gave it away for free. It's pretty good, particularly the latter half of the album when it gets a bit more interesting in terms of sound design.

The great Henry Mancini on a classic episode of the fantastic NPR show Piano Jazz. This one's a real treat.
