I'm going to add something. In my opinion, ROYGBIV is overrated. It's not that I don't like it. In fact, I think it's a great song, one of the best BoC songs even. It's certainly a staple of classic BoC, but many people overhype it.

I feel the same way about Buckie High/Julie and Candy/Amo Bishop Roden! Roygbiv is number 1 boc for me though, don't see that ever changing.

I like Julie and Candy a lot though. Much like how many people view ROYGBIV, I think Julie and Candy is basically Geogaddi in one song. I feel like one of the reasons that so many people like ROYGBIV so much is they feel it's like the MHTRTC all-encompassing song.

Not sure I agree with that assessment to be honest. There's too much diversity on each album to have just one track epitomising them. :)

I find that ROYGBIV is a nice gateway drug for people who haven't heard BoC before. Ease them into it gently with a nice catchy song, before going full Geogaddi on their ass.

Yes, this is true. Personally, the first BoC song I heard was Left Side Drive. That's another "entry" song, but ROYGBIV is generally considered to be "THE BoC song".

Yes. But in my opinion it's not as great as many think it is. That's just my opinion, though. My personal favorite song off of MHTRTC is either Aquarius or An Eagle in your Mind.

One Very Important Thought is better, although Roygbiv is what got me into BoC and IDM overall

It depends on you think constitutes overrated.

I mean the construction of the track is more tight and layered than you'd suspect. The everything revolves around the bassline, it carries the whole track. Even the percussion follows the rhythm of the bass rather than the other way round. That is in my admittedly narrow opinion a bit unorthodox. Although it is the most immediately gratifying it still has it's subtleties; the synth that slides in so unobtrusively in the second half, the soft, echoey "OOooh-oh-oh" vocal sample appearing every now and then.

Though I do agree AEIYM is probably the strongest on the album. What a cracking track. That is a subtle one. So many layers and sections.

Am I the only one who doesn't like TH that much?

It's the only BoC album that I have listened to over and over again and I still don't like it that much. Sure it has very amazing moments, and it's not a BAD album, but I don't love it as much as i did with the other records.
For example, I must have played my Campfire Headphase record like a hundred times because i can't get enough of it, and I always enjoy listening to it, but listening to TH just seems so challenging!

Flip TH with TCH and this is exactly how I feel.

It's just how it is, I think they're both polarizing albums, possibly depending on your musical taste you'll probably favor one over the other despite loving the rest of their catalog. I think there's a lot more common ground between their material from 1995-2002 than anything that's come since then. For me, TH is closer to a return to form.

I actually enjoy traditional instrumentation on R35TT and outside the realm of BoC (I listen to a lot of "hippie" music I guess) over what most people think of as EDM, so you'd think that I'd really love TCH, but it seems more aimless than anything else.

I know that's somewhat the point, so I respect it but my favorite BoC has always had a darker edge to it. I loved 80s industrial when I was in high school and while its not that exactly, TH does a good job of recalling the time and mood of the genre even if it doesn't sound exactly like it.

No, you're not and I incited a few arguments simply having and vocalizing that opinion. It's a 5/10 album by a 10/10 band. I believe I said something like TH is "the Phantom Menace" of music. That's probably accurate for me, but all the new seeds never had the black box experience, so I guess it's just lukewarm. They threw out the warmth, layering and detail from Geogaddi as well as the wide slow burn ambience of TCH. I knew it was to be their "cold" album and there's nothing inherently wrong with that. One of the things I love about Boards is that it is a band where there are no expectations when it comes to sound and every album will be distinctly different. It could have been fantastic.

It just ended up being something that I'm confident could have been made by more than half the musician friends I have in 10% of the time TH took (assuming that it took 3 years or so like the other records). Seemed self-indulgent and a nostalgia trip for horror movie soundtracks made by two masters of their craft who released it just for the fuck if it.

Yet, people like it. That's fine. If you love TH, keep loving it. Same thing with people who love TCH. I'm really surprised that's somehow seen as still the black sheep even after TH. I don't get it, but whatever.
Okay...now...wait for fog machine.

My opinion of TH is more extreme. I don't don't like it that much, I plain don't like it

What is this supposed to mean. Can you clarify this?

Play nicely kids. I'm eating some nice Moroccan hummus with an ice cold Staropramen. Could do without a flame war this evening.
