Allocating antiquated memories and forgetting former formulas Strings of letters that make no sense out of context The way I used to love and how I love now The dichotomy between past and present,
The Beatles, The Zombies, The Action, but with spin, fervour, vintage valour and utter weirdness. Chirp chirp, the legend lives on in the new blood.
This track took me completely by surprise when I first heard it. The whole album is spectacular, but there is something about the timing and composition after the 2:40 mark that is superlative, desperately hopeful.
There's a feeling of space, where the gaps are important as the music, that Mark Hollis talks about constantly in interviews around that period - that timing, he really perfects it in his solo album, you should check it out. What a fucking genius.
I've completely fallen in love with this album and it's all I've listened to for about 2 weeks now.
It's sunshine pop, that strain of pop inspired by the mix of baroque and psychedelic pop in the late 60's from groups like Beach Boys and Beatles. I've been digging in the well of this short but fruitful period, some records are much more psychedelic, some are more straightforward pop, and others - like this one - are simply transcendental.
I want to make music like this, but the melodies are so strong and sweet I don't know if i can find them.
