Yeah, if that's what you wanna think. The title is original and thought to be new "Boards of Canada". Right? No!

You would think the anticipation it caused to devoted listener aka "fan" it would leave a good impression. But did it? For me? No!

It was poopoo and only made you think you had a closer relationship with the guys that made all of their wonderful music we know. But, do they care about that? No! Why? Because they have your money!

Hopefully they'll stop dicking us around and be sweet sooner than later. Ciao

Just to let you know that you are welcome back here whenever and no one will hold that against you. At least I won't despite the fact I disagree, you are entitled to that opinion. I was there in the threads with you in the week prior to the event and I saw how excited you and many others were and how you were banking on it being a new release.

BoC liked a tweet on the subject of something tantamount to subverting the expectations of the fans and, because I recognized that because a small number of you were feeling somewhat manipulated, I politely mentioned that it may not have been the kindest thing to approve of and they quietly unliked it. Even BoC are sorry to a certain extent that certain people not only had other expectations, but that in treading the thin line between suspension of anticipation and mystery and something that would leave people feeling disillusioned, a few felt that they were taken advantage of to a certain extent.

That was never their intention. I can see that it is still something that you are somewhat sore about and I am sorry that you are. I am not going to jump right in with the "BoC don't owe you anything you ungrateful cretin!" type thing because, as well as being needlessly confrontational, you weren't feeling owed anything until the announcement was made that Boards would be involved in the Warp30 event.

They really didn't mean for you to feel this way. I can't speak for them because I don't know, but every indication is to that being the case. I hope it will grow on you and we got a beautiful remix out of it, if nothing else.

Oh noooo!! You're going trough what I call the "Boards of Canada Teenage Angster Phase" where you think they owe us anything and they just want our money and blahblahblah

Don't worry you'll grow out of it soon like we all did.

I had mine I think last year with my "A direct message to mike and marcus" thread.

I cringe everytime I see it

Expectations create demands, which leads to disappointment, which creates stress, which makes you unhappy, which means you will suffer.

Just don't :)

How did we come to the conclusion that the illusion remix was remixed by Boards of Canada? And why is it labelled as Hell Interface?

Not trying to be a dick about it but at the same time I'm kinda bemused.. Betwixed and bamboozled.. Not to mention kerfuffled..

Just as I mentioned before.. I mean what if it isn't..

Hype is real fun when you're in it but also means the payoff can never hold up to your expectations.
TH was so underwhelming when coming down from the amazing buildup, it took that album over a year to bed in for me because of it.
I purposely didn't get my hopes up for this warp 30 thing to have any new boc in but of course a glimmer was still there but I didn't feel disappointed by the end. I can imagine the despair someone can feel if they let themselves go over the top with anticipation.
Look after yourselves out there ;)

They experimented with a type of release they could only do via radio, given that they don’t play live. They’ve clearly always loved using samples, remixing, making mash-ups, etc. and some of their music remains unreleased for that very reason (XYZ was pulled from the Peel Seasion CD due to sample licensing issues).

Lots of other artists have done DJ sets but this is probably the only chance we’ll have to hear one from BoC. And they included some originals on top of it. I don’t understand how that could be disappointing to someone who has any understanding of them as artists.

Also, I don't think there is any BoC in that mix, bar short vignettes and noisy segways and manipulation. Of course the remix is part boc. The main tracks in that Soundcloud link sound nothing like BoC, just other artists that we have not found yet.

That is a valid question.
One of the indications we have is that it contains samples from Aquarius Version 3.

Sorry, I just felt like it. Hell Interface's thing was remixing Old songs like Midas Touch and such. I got the same vibe from this remix.

We didn't have anything else to name it tbh and don't know the source other than there is BoC samples innit and that its frigging cool, so It had to be identified imho. The theory that it was a remix by someone else didn't leave my mind and I would indeed change the name if that came to light, but for now I decided to call it that

Oh and btw Xaugh. We had such a positive experience from it, we got together as fans and it was magical, I never lived something like that we chilled while the mix was going on and it was very fun!!! But if you weren't there to experience that then I can maybe understand why its disappointing.

OK yeah got it.. if I listened to the entire thing past the 2 minute mark I would have realised what it was I was listening to in the first place.

On a side note, I think 'Sea Cathedral' could be inspiration for 'Flutes' with the waves crashing in the background.. That's one of my favourite peices by boc.. Its haunting and eerily psychedelic.. Amazing

Here's the updated BoC-only edit of the Societas X Tape. I added the track around 57 minutes, which I'm now pretty sure is an original vignette, and subtracted the Indian track that's since been identified (there was a significant degree of manipulation to it but I felt not quite enough to warrant inclusion).

Honestly, if they dropped, say, the "90 tracks left off of Geogaddi," certain places on the internet would explode.

That's a big responsibility for Mike and Marcus, having to clean up everyone's brain goo.

Unless of course those 90 tracks were all variants of Magic Window.
Warning: This numerology post is not to be taken 2 seriously.

Like, I’m starting to think, why would they post a mixtape. Are they trying to do something?

Have you ever listened to the Old Tunes? They’re full of remixes, mashups, snippets of TV shows, etc. Some of BoC’s earliest work was TV show theme songs with reversed vocals mixed in.

It makes perfect sense that they’d use the opportunity to play whatever without concern for copyright to make a mix like this. It’s the sort of thing they couldn’t have done otherwise.
