Well you see, if you interpret 6-5-2013 as a math problem then you can combine the negatives which gives you 6-2018. If you split 2018 up into 20 and 18, you can get a positive 2 by subtracting 18 from 20 and then use that positive 2 to cancel out the negative 2 in 2018 which leaves us with 018. Since leading zeroes are useless in the math context we can eliminate that zero, so we end up with 6-18.
Now, pay attention because this is where things get tricky. You can get a -3 by dividing 6 into -18 and then split the -18 into a -1 and an 8. -1 + -3 = -4, which we can divide into the 8 for a -2. We're currently at 6-2, almost there! If we divide -2 by itself we could theoretically end up with two 1s, and if we subtract 1 from 1 we get 0. That's it, all the hard parts are over, everyone knows that 6-0=6 since subtracting 0 from any number will always give you the same number.
