It was in preparation for New Clear Dawn, which as I understand was poised to release sometime around 2010 or so and went through a troubled development, leading eventually to Tomorrow's Harvest, which I'm sure borrows/is based heavily on material from that time yet is something entirely different. Exactly what the differences may have been along with the theme or quality of the album we might have originally received, we'll never know.
I have a feeling that Boards ran with the idea of creating an album that takes the form of a soundtrack - a poorly compiled one (pieces "ending before you want them to", tracks from the actual 'film' completely missing and pieces of various quality sourced from bootlegs only released in foreign countries, that sort of thing) at that - largely because it was convenient and perhaps allowed the two of them (or possibly mostly just one of the two, so I've also heard) to construct/finish most of the thing in time for a release so Warp would stop yelling at them.
I could be entirely wrong, but I've spent years thinking about it and it continues to make more sense. To their credit, they did a really good job at making the best out of the situation and actually releasing an album that very well may not have ever come at that point.
MDG: "the new album has been held up over the past year by one or two issues outwith the band's control, but it is finally coming out in 2010."
I have a feeling this is why MDG doesn't talk to people on the forum anymore

Where did you hear this? Though it definitely makes sense since they were apparently living in different countries at the time
