Those uploads really blew my mind. What a pity they aren't so well known.

-"studio build literally in the farm with cow and chickens"
-"there's no anyone business what we were doing all this time"
-"thousand of miles travelled just for one sample for Cold earth"
-"Reduce the human population"
-"Point of no return"
-"LESS HUMAN"

Everything about the rollout was beautifully crafted. You can tell they put so much energy into every little thing to create a very specific mood/style.

I love that ! Combine it with how seems absent they are. The last release was almost 10 years ago! They know how to play games with your imagination.

Daft punk just retired and Boards of Canada still silent, lol

By the Cardi B WAP mashup and the treat em right remix I guess my thoughts on mike being a rap fan are not looking too unbelievable anymore!
(At least it’s keeping r/boardsofcanada going!)

Very amusing that we were talking about BOC and their relation to rap and Hip-hop and whether we liked it or not, and then BOC dropped their most "hip-hop" type track in a long time.

Wonder if they or their handlers were listening to us?

It's kind of funny, because while I've certainly got some issues with current popular music, (seems very ugly and unpleasant to me) BOC dropped the kind of hip-hop I like. That kind of 90s G-funk stuff that is really funky, moody and dark.

Treat Em Right is also very special to me, because it was the first new BOC release I was actually here for, XYZ excluded.
Warning: This numerology post is not to be taken 2 seriously.

I know what you mean about mainstream music, it’s very formulaic and predictable (especially in hip-hop and rap) the only kind of music in that genre I listen to is (like you said) the G-funk 90s material, eg: De La Soul, OutKast, Roots manuva. There’s not much originality musically in drill or trap music.

Also with the BoC remix of treat em right I think the nevermen's verses were just as slick as the music was, they fitted very well. :D
"Learn the alphabet to keep yourself busy, sick pollen on barbed wire, man's hands on fire."
If BoC hypothetically put guest vocalists on an album, it wouldn’t deter me from listening.

I actually think there's lots of interesting things going on with trap, it's just not in the mainstream. Cloud rap and illbient in recent years have taken lots of cues from trap and modern rap, but it's very original n underground, and definitely inspired by BoC.

A lot of the WARP 90s electronic dudes came from 80s hip hop/b-boy culture, so a lot of that influence bleeds through (although you're right, they haven't made a super hip hoppy track since rue the whirl?) Autechre have mentioned being involved in the 80s hip hop scene/tagging scene during that time, and a lot of their earlier stuff shows that. The link really isn't that weak, hip hop and dance music bounced off each other.

just noticed in Societas X Tape how Billy Miller by Stefan Zauner ends saying "you don't need to explain to those who know", and then it cuts to an interlude saying something like "here in the wind tunnels, the fearful forces plot their plan by proxy, and one day we shall know"

that combined with the vaccine sample is kind of mind blowing.. has anyone tried to connect all the interludes and perhaps even some lyrics to potentially reveal some hidden messages? lol.

I really think the biggest messages we're supposed to take away from Societas is
A) Here's some rad obscure music we discovered while digging through vinyl bins as kids. Most of which didn't make it onto compact disc
B) Something is coming. Give it a bit longer.
C) Here's a direction we might take on our next album: mid-tempo, space themed psychedelic 70s krautrock with live drums and lots of old synths.

There are lots of other mini messages (i.e. their love of Devo, cults, 80s r&b, shoe-gaze, post-punk, weird ass discordian tom-foolery and that we squeeze a bunch of different lemons to make our BOCinade) but I think the ones listed above are the main ones.

Technically, if we truly believe they finished the album in 2020 when the Plaque was posted, then it was indeed a "bit longer" after 2019. And now the only thing standing in our way from hearing a new BOC album is the damn supply chain crisis.

PS: Nice find with Stefan Zauner. :D

Because it's a legit recording from when they were in a band called Alton Towers.

They had the splitting theme of TH all the way back in '98 with Telephasic Workshop. Perhaps this will continue onto the next release?
