I really enjoy it, too. Not really sure about who made it, but why would the original poster tell everyone to convert the YouTube video to mp3 if he was planning on "releasing" it?

Thanks for sharing. I missed this last year. To me it sounds like an illegitimate bastard son of a Hells Interface recording.

Still, to my ears, the thrift store VHS tracks pack way more originality and authenticity. Again, if even proven to be a BOC fake, whoever did created it has a ton of talent IMHO.
I remember witnessing the last great cataclysm.

Right, I want to ask this question before hand just so I can get an idea.

How does everyone feel about a topic dedicated to discussion of this VHS?
It may concentrate the conversation into one area, so we won't have to keep going around in circles on this topic.

So twoism, what do you think? :?:

I feel like the whole "VHS" thing ended when the guy deleted his channel, but I would still like a topic anyway just to discuss the actual contents of the tape

So after a vigorous listening session to the great Geogaddi, I got to thinking of the future of BOC while the soothing calm of Cosair washed over me.

Demo might be right about the heat death of the universe for the next album but I think the overall vibe of the album will be positive. After all, when Earth finally goes up smoke there will no longer be wars, strife, hatred, conflict, disease and anxiety. There will only be the cosmos floating peacefully waiting for the next big bang. Who knows that might be lovely in its own way.

I picture the next album sounding similar to TCH but spaceier and more blissful. Perhaps it will be more of an ambient album similar to Brian Enos Apollo Atmospheres.

By the time that happens everything will be forgotten, even BOC themselves, but at least they once made an album about it on a former place known as planet Earth.
Warning: This numerology post is not to be taken 2 seriously.

The set contains a total of 13 standard black 12" discs, making it Warps largest vinyl release to date. The number of discs is also intentional.

A/B/C/D - Catalog 3
E/F - Acid Memories
G/H/I/J - Closes Vol. 1
K/L - Play by Numbers
M/N - Hooper Bay

O/P - Music Has The Right To Children b-sides (including 'happy cycling', unreleased tracks off 'BOC Maxima', and more)
Q/R - Geogaddi b-sides (including 'from one source all things depend', and more)
S/T - The Campfire Headphase b-sides (including 'macquarie ridge', and more)
U/V - Tomorrow's Harvest b-sides (including 'harvest ritual', and more unreleased material originally slated to release as a follow-up EP in 2015)

W/X - Misc. unreleased tunes, as heard in leaked "a few old tunes", "old tunes vol. 2", "random 35 track tape" mixtapes.

Y/Z - double sided etched vinyl of various mathematical concepts and boc-related imagery (pioneer plaque humans, boc compound, etc.)

Each set of records is housed in it's own sleeve with original and touched up artwork.

At the same time as this release, will be a brand new 2xLP Boards of Canada album with similar minimalistic artwork to the outer sleeve of the bocset. The album is themed around space travel and features long, droning synths with deep, spaced out drum patterns. The album is their most cohesive yet with most tracks building off the previous one as if the entire album was one continuous song. Elements and samples of their previous albums drift in and out of the mix and become more distorted and distant as the album goes on.

I'm adding a 12" with locked grooves of all the web loops to this list.

Just thought of that and that would be such a cool addition...

It messes up my nice A-Z thing but whatever. It could be disc W.

Lol, no more nihilism, my guys.... give me eternal hope and Sesame St..

That said, I would be ecstatic if the next album was a slightly chilled space theme.

(Btw, if you're looking for some dope space theme/futuristic rap, checkout Deltron 3030, and Cannibal Ox's: Cold Vein.)

I'm still hoping for something folklore inspired! Some Jim Jupp, The Focus Group type stuff.

Just assume you are one if you have been coming here pre TH hype, just easier ;)

So basically the threshold could be set at Record Store Day 20th of April 2013. Everyone who signed up here on or after that date isn’t an old grumpy lurking fan.

This reminded me about an offhand post I made when I signed up here two months before the Record Store day hype; That I had a habit of getting into new bands and them releasing new material within the first year of me getting into them. I had discovered BoC in Summer 2012 and lo and behold a new album was out within a year.

I said this awhile ago, but what about an ancient aliens album. Something earth based, but still within the “space” theme. There’s a ton of references to the “others” throughout history, and even in Biblical texts like the Book of Enoch. He was literally abducted and taken around the Middle East in a space ship after living 365 years, entering heaven alive (just look up Enoch’s story it’s nuts). The past inside the present.

I'm not looking to be "aggressive," but I definitely don't have the same positive outlook expressed by some folks in this thread. I think it's totally legitimate to criticize someone for passing off their work as someone else's in an attempt to get attention by exploiting a fanbase's desire for more material. I don't think that's entirely ethical and I'll absolutely stand by that.

As an author I'd be pretty annoyed if I found someone was signing my name on a bunch of stuff I didn't write, that I had no control over or approval of, to attract people to their website and earn notoriety and royalties.

This uploader never passed the work as a Boards of Canada album though. That's what everyone else did lmao

*Negamuse, A_Northern_Soul and Techboy shaking their collective heads angrily*

I hope I don't come off angry on here, I do find these things fun and where I'm quick to listen to it and say "oh it's not BoC" maybe I miss something cool that someone less jaded spots so it's all good.

I think I've only been actually angry about this kind of thing once a long time ago and I got rightly pulled up on it by Mexi. (What can I say I was having a bad day and I'm, uh... A whole different person now  )

And like I said it's not like I've not made my own BoCish stuff I've just not released it. It's fun to play with that kind of sound!

The intent was pretty clear. Especially with the inclusion of a bunch of manipulated BOC tracks on there, and people with little or no comment history emerging from the woodwork to post about "discovering" it on Reddit in BOC communities.

So? It remains that he never claimed the music to be Boards of Canada. While the intent was to get people talking, that is a separate thing altogether. I don't fault him, it worked better than simply uploading it and leaving it to chance that people would see it. I really enjoyed the mixtape and I'll listen to whatever future stuff he puts out, if he comes back of course.

And here we still are, still talking about the tape in General New Release Speculation rather than in the dedicated thread for it.

...

Boards of Canada. Thoughts?
