Went out again tonight, wasn't as good. Still a few good ones here and there, but no where near as frequent.

Went to the beach to watch the Perseids last night. Easily the best shower I've seen in a long while, 1 every 10 seconds or so. Beautiful stuff.

Ah, so that's what it was! Just back from holiday on a boat where I just happened to get the perfect evening for stargazing on the 11th - no light pollution at all.
Saw just one 'shooting star' , very quick, with a trail which you would expect, but also two slow moving 'UFOs' that looked just like stars, which I didn't know what to make of. I had no idea this shower was due, pure luck on my part!

Saw a pretty vibrantly lit sky the other night... god damn not a spiritual person per se but who can help but feel like a beautiful pixel in this vastly high res raster image we call life... I wish I could see the stars every night but city smog (subtract 2 points)

Was quite magical when I was camping outside of my cottage in northern Canada a few weekends ago. No rain in the forecast so I slept without the rain cover over the tent, that far up north the milky way was really sharp. I saw a shooting star in between the parting of trees above me, that was sick : >

it's kinda sad that there's no sound in space. imagine a comet whistling the end of basefree. there's a rabbit on top, and a little axolotl friend and they giggle at the twilight zone smoking a fat reefer but there's no air so they die from the smoke because they forgot it matters. death is inevitable for them and a comet is not that exciting. what are orbs, autechre are asking the right questions.

Nasa has released a mesmerising timelapse video of the sun that condenses an entire solar cycle into an hour of footage, using images of the star taken every hour continuously over a decade.

When I was a kid, I wanted to be an astronomer when I grew up. Sometimes I wish I'd actually done it. This sort of stuff never fails to ignite that passion in me again. I still find it incredibly liberating to think about stuff like this, beyond our problems here on earth, to the (much) bigger picture. The 'pale blue dot' and all that. Puts things, especially the hubris of the human race, in perspective.

I have been waiting years for this. A lot of the scientists and astrophysicists supposedly broke down in to tears upon first viewing some of the images from JWST. I'm sure photos of star formations, some of the earliest galaxies, and possible atmospheres of exoplanets in this amount of detail is going to change our view of the cosmos forever.

When I read that they broke down into tears I immediately got excited.

What would we do if we discovered evidence of advanced intelligence or something, only it's light is so old that whatever life it is would be totally dead and gone by now? Can you imagine us finding out we're not alone technically, but also totally alone?
