2013

No offence, but I have no idea what BOC plans are

Just curious[/quote]

I don’t think what you’re writing is offensive. I just wonder why you feel a need to know their plans. What if they don’t know themselves? This is beyond our control so feeling weird or hurt or upset about it is futile, and ultimately wasted time and energy.

We've all braved terrible storms entering into the 2020s, my friend. I seriously feel like the next BOC album will be consoling like Sometimes.

"You okay...?" :)

Either that or they'll make one album that is dark and pessimistic like Tomorrow's Harvest and one that is light and consoling like The Campfire Headphase and we get to choose our future ;)
Warning: This numerology post is not to be taken 2 seriously.

Hasn't that almost been a pattern out around these parts.
Speculate

What do you mean, Aphex relleases an EP which is not an entire album, so probably not gonna fly

I don't mind the waiting, I just feel weird that there's zero communication between the community and the band

-No theme of the upcoming album (except speculation from social media posts)
-No idea of future tours
-Zero confirmation of back catalogue release

No love for the fans

I'm not sure what you mean, mdg did confirm there was a release coming. Beyond that, BoC don't owe their audience any communication. I feel like you're missing the point - they've always been consistent about their privacy & apprehension about the internet. They've always been allusive and cryptic.

I just find it weird that you think it's required of them to have a planned tour, dripfeed a theme & give you all the info about their catalogue. It's as if you're saying they are supposed to curate all of this for you because you like their music.

And they do show love for their fans, you just have to look for it. Easy example is A is to B as B is to C, where they literally are saying "We love you all."

Your take imo is essentially why they've always kept their fandom at arms length to avoid a potentially toxic and parasocial environment. I'm not saying you're being toxic, but these kinds of expectations are a bit entitled it feels.

At the end of the day, you're lucky they put out any music to begin with!

Had a dream that BoC surprise released a 51-track compilation on Spotify with no fanfare and no announcement called "Collected Works 81-92". The cover had the band's name scrawled in pencil handwriting with a few childhood photos like something from a scrapbook. It was a compendium of all the early EP material as well as various other unheard of tracks from that era with names like "Cyclone A", "Sedbec", "Sedbec 8.23". The response from the fan community here was overwhelmingly positive. People commented on how the stealth approach of just dumping it online was the perfect way for them to be released and a great tribute to the people who have been waiting for the Bocset for so long. Then I woke up, and realized I didn't even have to look at my phone to know there's no way in hell my dream was an accurate prediction...

Ssppeeccuullaattiioonn ttiimmee iiss hheerree oonnccee mmoorree..

I'm willing to bet the MHTRTC 25th celebration was just an excuse to put their physical discography on Bandcamp, in preparation for a new album launch, as Warp know sales will go up on all their releases when they announce new material. They don't want to create hype too early, so if they were all added without explanation it would turn too many heads.

Would explain why Tomorrow's Harvest's tenth anniversary got nearly no recognition. MHTRTC 25th set the groundwork for the next announcement, and there's nothing TH10th needed to do. The next we hear from BoC, will be something much more worthy of our attention... That being said, BoC did eventually like a few tweets praising TH. There were tons of TH tweets and, but BoC liked a few that also wish for a new album. And they did this on the day that Aphex Twin started his tour and promotion for his Blackbox Life Recorder EP. I'd imagine these likes are probably just to reassure that they're still on the way...

This also pretty much explains the Hi Scores reissue, and why it's been quietly updated digitally everywhere (except bandcamp) prior to any announcement. Obviously, Warp bought the rights to Hi Scores from Skam, and in an attempt to make the transition as smooth as possible, updated the metadata on streaming services ahead of time. If Hi Scores was removed from streaming services without any explanation, way more people would notice and wonder what's going on. Same with if it was added to Bandcamp, which would automatically send a notification and make new physical versions available way too early. There's no way this is just a digital change. Frankly, they would be stupid not to do a vinyl repress. That's the only BoC release currently not in stock on vinyl. Also, they wouldn't want to take any potential wind out of the sales of a new album announcement. So, again, the next time we hear from BoC will be... the big one, and either simultaneously or quickly afterwards, a Hi Scores repress will be announced. Warp can now offer the entire BoC mainline catalog in one place, in conjunction with a brand new release.

One could also speculate that the emphasis on their past catalog could indicate the bocset being next but I think they would do all this regardless.

It is kind of surreal it's been ten years. Even Aphex managed to squeeze out another EP after he took a five year break!

But I always look at it this way. It's gonna be a lot more boring once they release something. What will the General Thread wait for then?

In here is a tragedy, art thou player or audience?
Be as it may, the end doth remain:
all go on only toward death.
...
There is nothing which cannot become a puppet of fate
or an onlooker, peering into the cage.
