Hi all, my first post here. I'm following up yesterday's reddit incident.

First of all: i am absolutely sure that the uploads of the 17 year old poster are legitimate mixing desk recordings of the ATP event. The boy came into posession of the CD by coincidence, completely naive and innocent - you can see that if you read the whole conversation. Anyway, unfortunately, the voices of the hoax conspiracy theorists are much louder (!) in the reddit forum... In the end the poster was deterred and annoyed by the strong headwinds. I think we f***** it up ourself.

I posted the following yesterday and apparently the post has been removed (after being aggressively commented by some). I post it here again since I hope to find some more open-minded and less sceptic people in this forum:

I adjusted the levels of thr ATP-7 aka "Noatak" (?) recording a little bit - to get more fun out of the bedroom>phone recording: https://drive.google.com/file/d/10VGwCl ... sp=sharing

The transients are partly horrible sounding, perhaps too much compression overall - just a quick fix with headphones, I could not withstand. Hope you enjoy. Will try a better version when I'm in my studio.

At least it is: LOUDER! :D

I want to believe these are real... They just sound TOO good to be a cleaned up audience recording or some kind of recreation

ATP 3 sounds completely different from the cd recording, and it just sounds really off, please read niski’s posts

Hmm,thanks for the advise - I scrolled through everything - sorry I don’t see the point… I only hear what I can hear. For me the arrangement and the sounds, down to the tiniest detail of the audience recording vs the upload from the CD of ATP-7 is identical. I learned that the most obvious explanation should at least be considered as the truth.

Does anyone remember why the reddit poster said he had that CD of unreleased stuff?

Let me try: he said he is 17 and interested in all kinds of music. He found the CD in his Dad’s collection. His attention was initially drawn by the handwritten note “+ some Radiohead” on the disk. His father explained that he got the CD from “Mike Sandison’s brother”, who was a co-worker back in the day. Our poster obviously liked Boc’s music and did some quick research to get a glimpse of the whole lost tracks mystery. The he naively posted a screenshot of the physical CD, stating there might be some of the lost tracks on it. He mentioned one track in particular, where a kid’s voice says “Louder”. I shared the ATP-7 recording with him han he confirmed that this is exactly the track, only in high quality. Due to the lack of a proper CD-R device he was only able to share a lousy phone recording of that track. The rest is disastrous social media history.
Please let me know when you have more questions - I was there since 3mins after the initial post.

I believe it, I'm not sure why the nay sayers are so quick to dismiss it. The tracks sound identical to the original live recordings, and have elements that are super hard to recreate. Someone did a side by side comparison on Soundcloud of ATP7 and it matches perfectly.

You can't digitally clean up the original live recordings, they must be the original soundboard recordings.

Hopefully we can get this kid to upload them properly , but the dodgy phone recording of speakers is the best we're gonna get so far!

Real story:
He’s a very talented 17 y/o musician that is interested in BoC and wanted to do a hoax (probably to get some recognition), makes a bullshit, as hoax as a hoax story can get, made a forged CDr, and posts it on reddit of all places, posts his songs on the CDr onto YouTube (from a phone recording so it’s harder to notice the inconsistencies), people catch on to his hoax, he chickens out and makes an ARG ass excuse to not upload more tracks (he has ran out of recreations), deletes everything, mods delete the post, goes victim mode on the mods.

Look at his recording of ATP-3, and the real ATP-3 recording.

AI stem splitting, Song recreations using the same instruments.

Yeah its not easy, there's a recreation of ATP 7 on YouTube which doesn't come close.

You can't just AI stem split when there's so much noise/reverb and chatter over the top, even with clean recordings you get artefacts.

Listen to this, https://soundcloud.com/bunyips/noatak-a ... ystery-cda

its identical , the only main differences are some tones because of the room acoustics.

ATP-3 also sounds identical, I ripped them both and put them side by side and they line up perfectly.

Although impressive at first, I am leaning to it being fake. There is always some weird story involved and it's always about something we already heard before. OP could have simply posted a 10 second clip of any song and it would be crystal clear, yet it never happens with these. Short audio clip wouldn't hurt anyone.

As for how this sounds, main lead with the delay on it sounds totally different than in any of live versions and you can't really blame the acoustics on this one. Percussion/drum pattern sounds like it has some differences to live recordings, hi-hats in places where percussion should be. Like I said, very impressive work but I am pretty sure it would fall apart as soon as we hear the actual recording.

Big no-no is ATP-02 as well. We still don't have a fan version with proper choir and synth work later in the track and we only hear the first half of the song here. I am sure the fan version existed with just the first half done, maybe someone knows what I am talking about.

I'm convinced it was legit.

Aside from his incredibly earnest demeanor and the quality of the audio we heard, there were a couple other things. His camera pans across his room at one point, and it's totally a teenager's room - the books, little knick-knacks, posters, etc. I don't think it's some advanced audiophile using AI to create elaborate remakes. And then the location in the "about" section of his youtube channel was Ireland. Which would fit with the story.

Yes of course it could all be made up, but those details seemed to align conveniently with the story.

The main synth and delay sounds exactly the same to me, and there doesn't seem to be any percussion differences. The main percussion isn't resonating in the big room on the supposed leak, so it's less prominent.

Even to recreate that 'Noatak' voice sample is SO hard to do.

At 17 I leaked some music on a forum and shat my pants and immediately deleted the post in fear I'd be arrested. I can imagine the poor lad probably had similar thoughts.

Right? I refuse to believe that anyone who owns any unreleased stuff doesn't know anything about basic recording.

Their name is James Donnelly? Biznasty used the alias James Loughton for the Hooper Bay Hoax... (That troll is still funny a year later, props to you Biz and Niski if you're reading this!)

What are the odds of getting two BoC fakes under a "James-pseudonym" in the same decade? I'd like to believe it's real, but the discrepancies in the classic bootleg recordings vs. the alleged soundboard recording are a good point. The fact they only posted snippets isn't helping their case either... :(
