This is way more consequential than people might be willing to accept now (considering our fatigue).

and a well-received 2019 DJ set for NTS Radio.

Holy shit that was six years ago already? Nice read. That Paul Simpson sure did his homework.

Does anyone else find it odd that they flexed with the "heavily copied sound" quip in the first words of bio? Makes me think it's not official.

That's a valid point, but as long as the bio is available on a legit official account (e.g. Spotify) I consider it official/endorsed. We'll see if it gets replaced anytime soon.

If Thom Yorke allegedly took inspiration from my music I’d put that in my artist bio too! But in a more serious note, they are very deliberate about their online presence, and if this was unofficial I feel like it’d be taken down by now

That bio is dog dirt, it didn't even acknowledge the fact that the only known pressing of hooper bay was eaten like some kind of delicious cookie

Isn't it weird that nothing tangible and uncontrovertible has come out in years, and now this obviously dubious gpt barfed bio comes up everywhere? Who would treat artists like BOC with something thrown at a generic chatbot... even a junior would not do that unless you are trying to prove a point...

have they just sold their whole catalog over and called it a day? Is this punishment for their snail paced approach to delivering contractual goods?

Who knows, oh right, no one.
Molest me not with this pocket calculator stuff.

Worth noting that Aphex and Autechre both have bios in the same style written by the same company, which suggests the bio is Warp's doing rather than BOC's.

The bio is written by Paul Simpson, one of AllMusic’s many writers. AllMusic is a well known company since decades. Spotify automatically uses AllMusic as a source for their artist biographies if the band/label does not provide one themselves.

If Warp and/or BoC are aware of this biography chance and they don’t want to replace it we could safely accept it is an official one. I think by now they’re well aware of the change.

And on the topic of potential ChatGPT involvement? I guess that’s becoming ubiquitous and it wouldn’t surprise me if copywriters these days use it for assistance. Sign of the times?

No big deal in the grand scheme of things really.
We have new t-shirts, new bio.. I've not been this hopeful of a new release in a while!

I'm slightly comforted in the mention of Old Tunes tapes on Boards of Canada's official Spotify page. I feel like we have had 3 major movements since SxT

June 2022, confirmation from MDG of an album "on it's way"
July 2023, Boards of Canada creates a Threads account and notes that there will be "future news & announcements etc."
August 2024, PIC uploads a soundboard quality recording of an unreleased BoC interlude

A bio update seems like a minor movement, but movement nonetheless. This combined with a restock of merchandise on their Bandcamp (which has previously never carried BoC merch) makes it seem like something is imminent...

And for the first time ever they uploaded their Dayvan Cowboy video to their official YouTube and Instagram accounts. An (AI) enhanced / upscaled version with Invocation added it at the end. I wonder if Reach For The Dead is next.

Was browsing through SoundCloud and I noticed that some of the Old Tunes tracks were being auto-attributed to Boards of Canada. I assume this is similar to what was happening on YouTube, but in this case if you click on the track artist, it'll bring you to whomever uploaded the track rather than BoC's SoundCloud page.

I could be wrong but I don't think these are automatic. Uploader can add metadata.

All of these micro updates certainly help cement the 'new music' theory, although the sparseness of the activity is still rather unorthodox. Usually this kind of stuff all happens within a very short timeframe. It's often weeks, not years apart. It has to be a deliberate move to throw everyone off the scent.

In my opinion, all of this discreet activity is pointing towards another non-traditional album rollout, whether it be a multi-layered ARG (again) or a total surprise drop. Either way, I think there are exciting times ahead!

Definitely.

I'd be amazed if this has any significance at all, sadly.

I think it at the very least implies Warp and/or BoC are ok (so far?) with this update.
If not they would've overwritten it?

Sure - although personally I doubt BoC have anything to do with it. I just don't think it means anything in terms of a new release, especially as others have reported that Aphex, Autechre etc. have had similar updates.

I'd absolutely love to be wrong, of course.
