That T Shirt campaign was so cringe. Getting those young model lads to do those backdrop BoCesque shots of them walking through fields. They just needed the money. All this activity from warp is them going for dollars. The proof is in new music and there isn’t any.

If an album was gonna be announced after some t shirt releases. How long would they leave it? A week? A Month? 2 months MAX! If nothing happens after September then it is just more proof that it’s over.

I already said it, but I'll say it again. There's nothing unusual about a band releasing merchandise before they release new music. And if they do that, I think waiting at least two, and probably more like three months for the announcement of new music is realistic. This is a good move for all parties involved.

What's new in the story is that Warp Publishing has joined Impel. I think that now more than ever, it's a matter of not only pleasing the fans, but also all the financial stakeholders. By releasing merchandise first, loyal fans are rewarded and there will probably be a lot of sales (as evidenced by the message on the Bleep site, which shows that sales are going well).

At the moment, merch is all we can buy. Now we have a short period of financial breathing space before we can buy new things. It goes without saying that it is financially very unwise to announce everything at once, as this sometimes forces people to choose what to buy and what not to buy. Spreading everything out is safer, especially in this order. Suppose they had started with the new album and only later released the merchandise? From a financial perspective, I think that would have been weak. The idea here is that you first offer something tangible to the fans, make a good profit, and then you know that you'll make a good profit later on again because everyone will buy the new album without hesitation.

So yes it's also about the money. But not only that. It can be about the money AND about the start of a new album promotion at the same time. And that's where I think we stand. And let's not forget the following albums also released later in the year: Twoism, The Campfire Headphase, IABPOITC, Hi Scores.

We shall see. I think August we might hear/see something. A like on social media maybe? A light might flicker in the bunker. We will have to see.

If Warp think for one minute that after patiently waiting over 12 years for new music they deem a worthy reward as a t shirt.. they are sorely mistaken.

However, I am hopeful. Im not a pessimist but it's always healthy to view all angles before making assumptions.

Good to keep our options open.

After its Jupiter encounter, on April 16, 1975, the micrometeoroid detector was turned off since it was issuing spurious commands which were interfering with other instruments. Course corrections on May 26, 1976, and July 13, 1978, sharpened its trajectory towards Saturn.

They are somewhere out there.

What if you’ve misinterpreted their use of the pioneer plaque and the turquoise hexagon? What if the message was more to do with the people at home? This ‘space themed’ idea is very doubtful. Unless it’s some sort of shamanic astral projection journey theme. That would be more fitting and in tune with what I believe are their beliefs.

Interviewer: What's the significance of hexagons to you?

Marcus: The hexagon theme represents that whole idea of being able to see reality for what it is, the raw maths or patterns that make everything. We've always been interested in science and maths. Sometimes music or art or drugs can pull back the curtain for you and reveal the Wizard of Oz, so to speak, busy pushing the levers and pressing buttons. That's what maths is, the wizard. It sounds like nonsense but I'm sure a lot of people know what I'm talking about.

What ever the direction of their next album, understanding the pioneer plaque and why they like it so much, gives us a glimpse into how these visual elements inspire their creative direction musically.

And I take everything we’ve heard from BoC, MDG and other sources in good faith, but I know that plans can change and sometimes things don’t come to fruition.

Kevin Shields repeatedly claimed there would be a new My Bloody Valentine album “this year” again and again. I’m sure he intended that to be the case.

GRR Martin has been assuring fans for over a decade that the Winds of Winter is on the way. There’s no indication it is finished. There is no difference between his statements and what MDG has communicated. Again, I fully believe these are statements made in good faith. Unfortunately it doesn’t automatically translate to an imminent release.

I hope this post will soon be irrelevant as a new LP gets officially launched, but at the moment in order not to be disappointed I’m taking all news and findings with a pinch of salt.

First sane response I’ve read in a very long time. Quite refreshing.

BoC are too good for warp imo. Warp should move back to Sheffield and start making instant Gravy granules with trendy packaging by designers republic. Did they go broke too?

BOC may not be the ones liking the Instagram comments, but if it is someone else they don’t work for the record label. They are much more likely a confidant like MDG, or someone who knows how the brothers would like to be represented on a social media landscape and someone who could be trusted in not breaking their desired level of privacy and detachment from the noise which is being online.

I don't know why, but I'm really feeling an announcement next month. The 30th anniversary of the band really feels like something to celebrate due to the impact they've made on musical culture. With a flawless set of albums and EPs, it feels fitting that we will finally get a new centerpiece of their legacy.

Also the shirts have been selling like hotcakes too which makes me very happy. Even I got in on the festivities. This feels like a nice appetizer to the main course and I'm very looking forward to the next boc transmission.

Cheers friends, soon we will finally be back!

Indeed! No one has ever and will ever just casually sully their social media with blatant falsehoods. This is not good for the label, but first and foremost pernicious for Mike and Marcus themselves.

It is naive to think that the brothers have never used social media in their lives. They really do know what happens to their image on Instagram, for example. I think many here underestimate them.

Remember that Boards of Canada is just a project and they certainly have other pursuits. And for these other pursuits, it can be useful to have a presence on social media, if only to follow certain people and companies and then contact them in DM. The internet might be evil, but it's not 1995 anymore.

Buying merch is indeed one of the best ways to support your favorite band. I bought a t-shirt and a sweater myself, and I must say that the quality is very solid and feels comfortable.

I too would be absolutely surprised if no one does anything for Twoism 30, as it is not only Twoism 30, but in a sense BoC 30. For MHTRTC 20, we got a new article/interview from Pitchfork and a limited lithograph via Bleep. It would be nice should another similar article appear at Pitchfork. And more is allowed too, of course. :-) However, I don't expect them to link Twoism 30 to LP5.
