Did you know one can be appreciative of their music and be critical of their lack of communication at the same time?
That all things you mentioned regarding life events happening apply to their fans too?
Have you ever ignored people for 12 years straight, because ‘life got in the way’?

Boards of Canada is not a straightforward band. Never has been, never will be.
They don’t owe us anything, not even a certain communication style.
It's their art, and their time.

Different folks, different strokes.

In my role as bocpages, this has become clear over the past two decades.
I think it's important to document all of this so we can separate fact from fiction.

I can therefore say without hesitation that they have not been ignoring us for twelve years.
Plenty has happened on their official channels since 2013. Even new music: remixes + SxT.

But, if one prefers to rely solely on Warp's official posts, then one simply has to wait.

I agree that we need to be mindful that they last dropped us something only 6 years ago. So we shouldn't be saying 12 years, only 6

Don’t forget they dropped Treat Em Right in summer 2021.

A few of y'all don't have patience, and are also getting parasocial af. There has been a lot of activity from BoC this year. They don't use words online, and when they do, it's "there are no words". I don't know how much clearer it needs to be. Respect their boundaries, they have given us enough in the time that they have. It's obvious they are cooking, main course will arrive soon, just wait a bit longer damn it.

Well there we go, Last music was 4 years ago not 12. So hardly an unprecedented amount of time between releases

It certainly seems that more has been happening in the last two years. This can't be bad!

If it's not this year, it's most likely the next one. As Fredd's pointed out, some really big things have been happening for them in terms of gearing up for a release. The signs of life are growing. Even during this summer alone, we had the merch and the celebration of the 30th year of officially released records from them with Twoism.

I think I've long come to acceptance with it taking a long time because Peter Gabriel fans like me had to wait 21 years for a new album and it was such a beautifully crafted work that was over 70 minutes long! BOC are probably gearing up for a new flagship album and when we hear the level of detail and craftsmanship put into it, we will be thankful to have it in our hands.

As Tame Impala once said, "Patience."
Warning: This numerology post is not to be taken 2 seriously.

How so?

  • Twoism 30: their first album, that's always special
  • MHTRTC 20: their critically acclaimed landmark album, no words needed
  • Campfire 20: they consider this their pop album, they maybe even rate it higher than MHTRTC

The first two celebrations received something extra. I dare assume Campfire 20 will too.

In what way was twoism celebrated? An Instagram post? That's not a celebration that's an Instagram post

Other anniversaries didn’t receive a dedicated social media video post. Definitely not one that contains an alternate take of one of their songs. They clearly did more effort on this one. And it’s made available again.

To call it a celebration is massive over statement. It was a mere acknowledgement.

A mere acknowledgement they didn’t do for other anniversaries. In that regard it’s notable.

If you want really big celebrations, you need to go to carnival in Rio de Janeiro.

I don't want big celebrations. I couldn't care less if they celebrated or not. My point is an Instagram post is not a celebration. Anyway.. Moving on

Based on a lot of recent neurotic comments, I feel the need to say that NOBODY is entitled to new Boards of Canada.

Suuuper weird shit getting upset at them. They don't owe you anything. Be grateful that we have what we have. Some of you are being ridiculous.

People seem so binary on this, it's always either "they're done" or "they owe us". I think it's OBVIOUS they have cooked up new music and art, it's obvious all we need to do is wait. I get that it feels a bit like they're jingling the keys in front of us, but we shouldn't look at it that way, in reality that's not how it is. You can still expect and hope new BoC is around the corner, you can even feel upset that it's not here yet, but direct your emotions inwards, not outwards towards to bros who have likely been working extremely hard.

We do know, it is going to happen, it is obvious.
