Cavity Job by Autechre...

SO cheesy... I can't believe this is actually them... It's from a TOTALLY different planet than any of their subsequent work...

Breithla by Ciaran Byrne.

I'll admit I wasn't a fan at first, but now I really dig the track... Ciaran you are an unbelievable talent and I am almost looking forward to owning your slab of vinyl as much as the Trans Canada Highway... What more can I say?!

Afx - Chosen Lords

Although about half the tracks are good, overall I was dissapointed by this release. I was expecting great things after all the hype over the Analord series. And the digipack cover is a really ugly brown cardboard material, way differnt from the lush looking red one I've seen advertised. The poster also sucks. :x

Chosen Lords was just a cash-in... To get the true Analord experience you need all 11 vinyls. Although my personal favorites Anals are Analord 03, 05, 06, 07, 08 and 10... The others haven't grown on me as much yet... For instance, Analord 09 sounds VERY reminiscent of Rephlex's 'Universal Indicator' series from the early 1990's, thus it is extremely squelchy and repetative. Someday I may enjoy the entire series equally.

just got CLs in the post today aswell. is good but little dissapointed. the digipack is a mank cover. the one warp had on the site a few weeks ago looked so sweet. why was it changed? i must get all the lords on vinyl, just even to have.
can you still get the analord case for to put them into?

The promo for the Chosen Lords CD had a really awesome hinge design and faux-leather material (Like the binder for the vinyls), so to hear how crappy the CD packaging for the commercial release turned out is a bit odd.

As for the binder to house the vinyls, well only 1000 were made and available via mail-order to Rephlex in the Fall of 2005 only. If you want it these days it'll cost you literally $250 USD or more on eBay. I'm not sure if I'll ever be able to get one.

One of the most heart-achingly, uncompromisingly beautiful peices of music ever written. When I first heard this back in 1998 I felt as though I had died and was hearing my own journey into the stars as part of the cosmos. The same can be said for the entire 'Apollo: Atmospheres and Soundtracks' album which this track is from. Please do yourselves a favour and buy this album... It is my favorite album of all time.

An Ending (Ascent) was used in '28 Days Later' but I didn't really like how it was used in spite of the fact that I adored the film. The track was used more effectively in the film 'Traffic' during the end.

It was used most effectively (in fact it was composed explicitly for) the film 'For All Mankind'; an uncompromising documentary on the Apollo 11 moon landing. Brian Eno provided the music and henceforth the soundtrack for that film is at the apex of my desert island selection.

Macquarie Ridge by Boards Of Canada.

Had it on loop all day... It is unbelievably beautiful! One of my new favorite BoC tracks! The harps and trumpet (?) are an odd choice, but they sure work. I'm not sure I would liken it to Zoetrope because I think Macquarie Ridge is infinitely superior, although the staccato element of it is remaniscent of Zoetrope.
